FW 8.02 adding ghost laps on running workouts

After 8.02 update I noticed that if I press lap button after finishing workout the watch adds a ghost lap in the duration of the last lap and that messes up the metrics.

    Try doing a master reset

With your Garmin off, press the three buttons (Light, Enter/Start & Back) at the same time and release them in this order:

The watch will turn on, when the Garmin name or its symbol (a triangle) appears on the screen, release the «Light» button.

(Keep holding down the other two). After a few seconds, the watch will beep, at which point we release the «Enter» button (it continues to hold the remaining one).

And finally, a second beep will sound and at that moment you release the «Back» button. Ready. Hope it helps

  • I would not use so nuclear option first. And it would be nice to tell what that means if one follows that. Like that sounds that you will loose everything.

I would start with the basic 15s light button reset.

Toggle settings what the lap button does.

And see will that help. Then I would wait can others reproduce that, is it really a problem in the beta firmware.

Also it's kind of normal to have some weird issues after FW upgrade without doing that 15s reset.

  • Stop the activity after finishing the workout unless you want to continue.

  • Surely adding a lap is exactly what you would expect to happen when you press the LAP button?

If you want to end the workout, press the STOP button.

I have no idea why people are suggesting resetting, etc. The watch is functioning exactly as it is labelled.

  • I know that if i press lap it makes new lap, but the problem is that if my last interval is 10 min cool down and I press lap after the interval is finished in 2s the 945 makes lap in duration of 10 min instead of 2s. If last interval is 30 min ghost lap is 30 min.

  • It’s not a ‘ghost lap’ it’s the watch stepping through as expected whenever you, press lap,in a workout. Either set the last lap to ‘Go until lap press’, don’t press lap until the lap is finished, or accept it.

  • If you would read my first post you would see that it happenes when the workout is finished ant the watch says ‘Go until lap press’.

This is data for last lap of interval.

And the data for added lap with zero data, but it ads 5min to total time and time for intervals 13-15 as shown in GC with zero distance and zero pace and random HR. And that is why all the data except distance is wrong.

But if I press stop button that does not happen.

  • This is clearly an annoying bug. I would open a support ticket with Garmin for this issue.

  • Please post the workout steps as they were when you posted.

Note that the original post made no mention of the last step being ‘Go until Lap press’ only that the lap button was pressed.
