Recommendation on running earbuds 2021

Hey guys, I'm looking for advice for a pair of good running earbuds. I saw many compatibility lists (either by Garmin or users) but they all seem quite outdated (dating back to 1/2 years ago).

I've seen many nice models out there (Jabra, Jaybird, Beats, etc) but also found lots of people complaining about dropouts or issues with volume/song controls or connectivity. I'm using a Forerunner 945 and wearing it on my left wrist (and not willing to move it on the right one).

My budget is around 150 €. I took a look at a couple of Sennheiser models (CX True Wireless and Momentum True Wireless) but could not find any review/opinion online about how they really work with a Garmin.

Do you guys have any experience/recommendations to share?

Thanks!

  • These are not earbuds, but I have had great results with Aftershokz (Air, using bone conduction) for the last 2+ years with my 945. Not the greatest for music perhaps, but the bulk of my listening is to podcasts or audiobooks, and music is good enough for me.

I do most of my runs in the city, so I have to be able to hear cars etc, these will not block my ear canal, but work through bone conduction, still giving me great situational awareness. If these would fail, I'd immediately order a replacement (probably Aeropex as they are waterproof - these are so comfortable, I've stepped into the shower a few times almost still wearing them), I haven't found anything close to it.

  • I also have the aftershocksz. No problems so far.

  • Thanks guys! I'll look into Aftershokz too. I'd perhaps be using them at the gym as well, are they good for that too?

  • With 182 they are above your limit, but if you are an Apple user:
Get yourself a set of AirPod Pros using them in transparency mode for running since my cheap Anker ones died last year, I have no problems.

  • Don't buy the Jaybird. There's endless reported issues of disconnects with this brand.

  • I tried a lot of headphones for sports and +1 for Aftershokz (have Trekz Air and Aeropex). Use them for running and cycling and they are perfect. Nothing is falling out, easy to handle and major benefit: I can hear my surrounding. BUT: sound quality is not perfect of course. For podcasts/audio books *for me* absolutely ok.

Big BUT: when I go to the gym, I use my AirPods Pro with noise cancelling. Simply because they have load background music there and with Aftershokz I can barely hear my podcasts.

  • Should be fine depending on ambient noise and what you do (I never go to a gym, so I'll let others chime in). Also, due to the way they are constructed, putting your head back down on a surface will most likely present an issue due to the connecting arc.

  • If the very cheap generic sets (from Amz) I use work great 95% of the time with my watch (<30$)... I can't imagine you'll be disappointed in a "higher quality" option.

Multiple sets of types of Soundpeats (TrueFree, Q12 HD), and wireless Aukey - if you use them enough you get the hang of the true wireless options, main thing is having some sort of tab / wing that goes into earlobe to prevent them falling out while working out.  Like Soundpeats Q30 / Q35

Can buy aftermarket wing slip-ons for some of the more expensive popular 'airpod' or Samsung equivalent.

  • Jabra Elite Active 75t, use them every day, perfekt.

  • I'm happy with my Bose Sport Earbuds.
