WEATHER/HEAT ACCLIMATION

I no longer have the option to see my heat acclimation status as my 945 does not get weather updates. Instead I get a message "waiting for data"??

I have ensured my location settings are set to "always", I have given the app all permissions, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I have ensured my watch is connected to my phone via Bluetooth and I have an active wifi connection. I have only just bought the watch and this feature is important to my as I train in a hot climate for 6 months of every year before returning home where its more milder.

I have seen from a couple of years ago that some other people have had similar issues but none seem to have been solved? Anyone any advice? I like the watch and don't really want to return it.

  • Here is the support page for Fenix but it is likely the exact same as on FR945: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=S57LfEKUx03zHITdB8CAL8

Have you done this: "Start an Outdoor activity and briefly step outdoors to acquire GPS signal on the Garmin."

  • Hello this is going to be an app side issue as the weather data is coming from the phone. We have an article that covers most common issues I'm going to attach the pertinent information to the error message you are mentioning.

Weather data not displaying on your Garmin watch or Edge bike computer can present itself a few different ways:

    • Weather data is not available message
    • Waiting for data message
    • Widget may display an exclamation icon

    Common Troubleshooting Steps

    • Confirm the Garmin device is paired and connected to the phone through the Garmin Connect app.
    • Confirm the Bluetooth setting on your smartphone and your Garmin device is turned on.
    • For GPS capable Garmin devices, start an outdoor activity and briefly step outdoors to acquire GPS signal.
    • For Apple phones, make sure the Garmin Connect app is open and/or running in the background. The app can be minimized, but must remain open in the background to receive weather information.
    • Confirm that the Location permissions for Garmin Connect are set properly.
      • Android

It is important to follow every step listed to ensure the phone's location permission is properly enabled:

        1. Open the Garmin Connect app
        2. Select   (upper left corner)
        3. Select Settings
        4. Select Phone Permissions
        5. Select Manage Permissions. This will take you out of the Garmin Connect app and into the phone's app management settings.
        6. Select Permissions
        7. Select Location
        8. Select Allow all the time
          • If "Allow all the time" is not an available option, toggle Location on
        9. Tap the back arrow at the top left to back out and save these settings
        10. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device, and sync it through the Garmin Connect app
      • Apple

It is important to follow every step listed to ensure the phone's location permission is properly enabled:

        1. Open the Settings menu on the phone
        2. Select Privacy
        3. Select Location Services
        4. Toggle on if needed
        5. Select Connect from the list of apps on the Location Services screen
        6. Ensure Allow Location Access is set to Always
        7. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device, and sync it through the Garmin Connect app
    • Close and reopen the application on your phone.
    • Unpair and repair the device to the phone. For steps, please see: Instructions to Remove and Add a Device in the Garmin Connect App.

  • In addition to excellent guide, I might add that phones can sometimes be slow in acquiring GPS indoors (you mention an active wifi connection, so I assume you are indoors). At least standing near a window helps the phone "see" more satellites to get a position.
