7.75 beta barometer and altimeter changes

I've made some observations and was wondering how other people's experience has been so far?

My observations running the 7.75 Beta

  • Barometer
    • Watch Mode: "Altimeter"
  • Air port is clean and unobstructed
  • During activity
    • Altimeter is far more accurate now during runs
    • less temperature-induced variability
  • Not during activity
    • Significant altimeter and barometer drift within a day of calibration
    • Altimeter can be off by 200ft a day after calibrating

Note - I work across from a regional airport and calibrate the barometer and altimeter from METAR weather reports from the airport.

Edit 1:

  • Barometer
    • Watch Mode: "Altimeter" much more stable over "Auto"
  • @ss29640 - How do you have auto calibration configured - specifically during activity? I have not completed and outdoor activity since loading the 7.75 beta, but I definitely see significant drift not during activity. I see divergence within minutes of calibration which sometimes grows to ~1000 ft.

  • Autocal Settings

    • During activity: Continuous
    • Not during activity: On

Are you familiar with how calibrate "not during activity" works?

  • Magic! But with many things with these watches, no idea how it auto calibrates when it doesn’t have gps data to work with.

It's actually very confusing and not well written.  It's a one time daily calibration.  You must have a sleep window set and your phone must be connected to Bluetooth.  During your sleep window, the watch will use the phone location and set the elevation it receives using DEM from your maps.   This works great unless you live on the 20th floor of an apartment building as the phone only gives you ground location.  Therefore, drifting throughout the day is normal.  It's confusing because most assume the setting has the altimeter calibrating throughout the day even without doing an activity.
