Training status missing since July 27th 2021

Since july 27th 2021 I have had no training status data in the Connect app. I get this silly message to run twice a week in order to get training status updates. My 945 doesn't show them either. As this is not a unique issue (there are quite a few posts on this topic) I want to know from Garmin what is wrong here.

  • Here's another ScrPr from the Connect app. However the message is not correct. I sport a lot and since July 27th this year, no more status updates, despite all my efforts. What's going on here?

  • Check your VO2 max graph for the past 4 weeks. Do you have at least two values per week?

The issue is common because during the summer time people don't use their trainers anymore which got a power meter and their outdoor bikes don't have that. Another cause is that people do more trail running with a watch that don't calculate VO2 max for trail running or that VO2 max is turned off for that type.

  • Thanks for your answer e7andy. I use my FR945 24/7 and never train without it. When cycling I use an Edge 1030 as well. Now first on your Q about VO2MAX. No I don't have two values pro week. But that is not unusual and until now never a problem. And also this can't be a summer issue as you call it, because of me wearing the 945 all day and night. My status disappeared, as I wrote suddenly, about two weeks ago. Very strange.

  • The most important thing is to have VO2 max values. You need new VO2 max values continuously to get a training status. At least two per week is what works. It might work with just one for a week, but probably not for an extended period of time.

That you wear your watch 24/7 doesn't matter. Training status comes from your VO2 max values and your training load.

  • Well, the status is back as since today. Now I had two training activities this week. A 500km bikeride on Tuesday and a short run today. Magically (?) the training status reappeared. But, now I miss data from my run such as vertical oscillation, gct, balance etc. I am using (as always my tri-band). Something is not right with Garmin lately...

  • Garmin Connect isn't really working right now so wait until the status is ok again: https://connect.garmin.com/status/

Make sure that the HRM-Tri really is being used. Easiest is to check if the optical heart rate diods under the watch are flashing or not during the activity.

  • Aha, that could be the problem indeed. I'll wait. My tri-band has never failed working and I did get some statistics, but most not. Thanks for your swift replies!

  • I'm having the exact issue, training status just stopped last week after a hard speed workout during which I decided to wear my HRM-Tri to get an accurate HR. Before this I wasn't constantly using it, expect on the bike, when swimming or when training indoors.

Since then, I ran 3 times wearing my HRM-Tri including a 10K race yesterday during which I set a new PR. On the bike I use my Edge 530 with a power meter and HRM-Tri all the time. I never really take off the watch, except when charging or cleaning.

I checked my vo2max graphs and I can't know for sure how many datapoints per week do I have, as I only see a single data point for cycling over the past 4 weeks and 4 data points for running.

  • The number of VO2 max data points needed is likely just 2 for the last week and maybe some more the week before. You got two from yesterday, but it was on the same day so you might need one or two more on separate days. The previous VO2 max before that was July 20 so it isn't strange that you got no training status from August 2 which was about 2 weeks after your last VO2 max value.

  • Yea but this is very unusual, as I'm always training with HR, my optical sensor is also pretty accurate except in water. However because of the heat and sweat recently, I've decided to switch to my HRM-TRI to get a more precise readings. Now the question is how can I guarantee vo2 max readings? I'm training for an ironman and I train between 12 and 15 hours a week for 3 sports.
