Forerunner 945 or 745 vs Fenix 6S Pro

Hello, new to the Garmin site so have also posted this in the outdoor recreation section. Please may I ask for some help!  I am looking to purchase my first Garmin watch, I mainly swim (daily - pool swimming and open water)  but sometimes outdoor walks/hikes. I have small wrists and have been thinking of going for the Garmin Fenix 6S Pro, but am concerned it will be too heavy for daily swimming. Therefore have also been looking at the FR745 (for size) but due to price, if going for a FR seems logical to go for a FR945.

Ultimately I like the Fenix series, also because it is more than just a training watch and looks fab for every day use. just concerned about weight.

Please may I ask for any advice from people who have tried/tested and know a little more than me! Thank you.

  • However, I do miss the build quality of the fenix.  The buttons are far better than on the Forerunners, the displays are nicer, they're just better built watches.

For sure! And I agree about customer support - they always try to help out, but can be very busy, it often takes some time for them to respond. Never had any trouble exchanging watches if they had a defect. Some competing brands could learn something here.

Out of warranty replacements are priced reasonably IMO, which is important for watches you can't repair yourself.

On a Fenix, you can replace the battery, back cover and screen yourself, which you can't (not easily) do for Forerunners. I like to buy used or 'new old stock', because by the time the watch is old, there are spare parts and broken watches (for parts) available. And most of the kinks are out of the firmware by then.

  • Really good to know, especially as this will be my first multipart watch!
