Years later Open water swim distance short by 10+%

The 945 is mature now but the open water accuracy has not improved on my watch anyway. I swim a known course. I swam with a friend with a Fenix 5 today. While the fenix may have a different chip set, it was pretty accurate and I was off by over 10% on a 3000m swim. This distorts my pace and actually showed me slower than my friend who got a 200 meter head start while I finished before her! I have the watch recording every second and am using GPS+Galileo. Any recommendations?

Same story for Fenix 6. I noticed the same 10% discrepancy. I'm reporting this issue since 1 year now.

I see more than 30"/100m of difference between pool and OWS. All these problems will be solved with dual gps chipset. Between one or 2 models, in 2025. Technology is ready, but marketing needs little news every year. And now increasing battery(30 days...) is more important than our swim pace.

This view through rosy tinted specs keeps popping up when even the most cursory of searches will find evidence to suggest some users did have issues.

I agree that the fenix 6 (with the sony chipset) took a turn for the worse in terms of ows accuracy. Ever since the 910xt (i believe the first watch to work in swim mode) then f3 and f5 didn't have these gross errors. don't know if it's fixable but my hope is that the f7 will utilize the dual band newer sony and resolve the swim issue.
