FR 945 gps problems.

Hello. My Forerunner 945 takes a long time to search for a GPS signal. Previously, in the worst case, it could take a few minutes, but the last week it takes 0.5-1 hour before it receives a GPS signal. I do not have time to wait, and start the session without a gps signal. Out in the session (30min or more) it gets a gps signal, but often loses it several times during the session. The result is crap, a session that destroys the training statistics, etc. Very annoying. I am stand outside and have an open sky above me, no forest or anything that will prevent the watch from searching for a GPS signal. I have tried to restart the clock several times. Turns off, waits 15min, turns on. I did not have this problem before. It was annoying enough that I sometimes had to wait 5 minutes for a gps signal, but it is completely unacceptable as it is now... Regards JS.

  • I am having the same issue and now it goes into power saving mode before it ever connects Frowning2Frowning2

  • The same issue here. Must be a software update. It‘s really annoying. Loosing GPS Signal also in the forrest during running…

    • I’ve only had this sort of problem with Fitbit, which I got rid of along time ago. I know a lot of people can’t afford to have a second device, but this sort of thing is why I wear a watch on both wrist while running just in case one of them fails. The second device is also fun because it allows me to test different brands to see if I like it more than my primary device. I know this is unacceptable from a brand that charges a ton of money for their products, but it’s bound to happen at some point. You may just have to send it in for repairs. Hopefully you have a back up device to use while you’re waiting.
  • Enter CPE in the search box above and read about the CPE file and how to replace/restore/update it.

  • A soft reset (upper left button pushed for about 15 sec until watch switches off) might help, at least for a different model it was reported that it helped. Or update CPE as Phil recommended

  • I have deleted old CPE files and synchronised with garmin express. I have new CPE files and now the time to find the GPS signal is ok. Thanks for that. Now I notice that the climbing is not correct - for instance on a cycling trip with 60 km and 163 m of climbing it shows climbing of 705 meters. Any idea on that?

  • Defective barometric sensor. Call Garmin support about That.
