Interval elapsed time vs pace discrepancy.

When running a workout with an interval with a target pace, I notice that the elapsed time for the interval is considerably higher than the pace measurement ever reaches. For example, I'll run an interval with the target pace between 7:30 -7:50 and as I watch the pace, it'll never exceed the range, however when the interval ends, the watch will show an elapsed time of 8:00+.

Is there a reason for this discrepancy and will I need to just offset my target pace range by 10 or so seconds to account for this going forward.

  • How long distance is the interval?

Could you post a link from Garmin Connect Web to an activity?

  • Typically a mile. The activity reflects the elapsed time however the instant pace never reflects the same pace as the elapsed time.

  • I think I noticed the same problem today. I prepared a workout to run a 5k at a given pace. I set a target pace with range of 4:23-4:50min/km. During the workout I stayed within the range the whole time (except maybe at the very beginning), but when I look at the 1k laps, the 2nd one is faster than 4:20 and the last ones are slower than 4:50... The average pace cannot be faster or slower than any values of the instantaneous pace..
