USB Sync Problem (Garmin Forerunner 945)

I can sync my Garmin 945 with wifi over the internet. I am having problems syncing over my usb cable. Soon as I connect I get two messages: (1) "Setting Up Device" (2) "Device Is Ready".

Unfortunately, I am not getting the third expected (hoped for) message telling me my device is synced. The 4 pins in the end of the usb cable appear to be the same length. I have tried cleaning out both contact points (cable and watch) with toothpaste on an electric toothbrush. I have tried different usb ports on the front and back of my desktop. Is it possible to force a sync off some Garmin folder on the hard drive after I connect?

  • Are you using Garmin Express?

  • Yes. Latest version of Garmin Express and Garmin Connect. I am having zero problems with a Garmin Forerunner 235 and a Garmin Edge 1030 Plus. My 945 shows up properly in Windows 10 Pro "Devices"

  • Looks to me as if you are confusing the messages you get when you connect to the OS and the messages when opening Garmin Express. As noted you see

    (1) "Setting Up Device" (2) "Device Is Ready".

which are Windows messages telling you your device is connected. Once connected you can access the files on the 945 via File Explorer.

You sync the watch through Garmin Express (GE) to upload data to Garmin Connect. Provided you have correctly added your watch to GE and it is connected, you will see a progress bar as the watch syncs data.

  • At the top of the Garmin Express page I read: Forerunner 945 Not Connected (I am not confused, thank you.) With my other two Garmin devices I am seeing a progress bar.

  • To be clear the messages you note are Windows OS messages. You will not see, nor should you expect to see a 3rd message telling you that your 945 has synced. This will only happen after syncing with Garmin Express and appears in Garmin Express..

Once your watch is connected in Windows, opening Garmin Express should initiate connection with the 945. Syncing will then follow.

You need to be sure your 945 has been added to GE properly. I suggest you go to Tools, Utilities and

then add it back in again.

Ensure you have no other programs accessing the watch folders at the same time as you are trying to sync with Garmin Express.

If this makes no difference perhaps check the forum posts in the Apps & Software, Garmin Express Windows thread -forums.garmin.com/.../garmin-express-windows
