Something clearly went wrong with the latest firmware 7.10. It would be nice to hear something official from Garmin as this would clear the air and avoid a lot of misleading guesses all over...

You're not going to hear nothing more then they found a issue and decided to stop the release. They won't to go into detail. On the positive side, the same happen with the F6 and they just released…
From the (softwarewise similar) F6 update from today:
16.70 Chang Log Notes (all changes since 16.60):

That's good news on the F6. Thanks!
I know it's unlikely to get a detailed update but trying doesn't hurt ;-)

16.70 Chang Log Notes (all changes since 16.60):
Ignore the first two, but the remainig two seem serious enough to delay the rollout and fix them.
Fixed issue causing intermittent excessive battery drain.
That's been ongoing for some since well before the release and likely not to be the reason
Fixed potential crash during power up.
Also this doesn't sound what I've read the forums. That's only happening during power up. People are complaining myriad of stuff.
And apparently at least some of them like recording zero distance is fixed with the good old 15s pressing of the light button.
Ref: F945 do not display distance, speed and pace are displayed . Acivities not savable . Hard reset , activities discarded on garmin folder : No change ! still no distance . any suggestion ? - Forerunner 945 - Running/Multisport - Garmin Forums
I have been using this version for a week and everything works, sleep reflects my sensations and the battery drains as before, but I do not use ciq applications (except Garmin running power) and I have nothing automatically, I only do the upgrades manually with GE and then I always turn off the clock, it always worked. Surely there is something wrong, after the map problem it happened again with Fenix6, just released the new version after the block of the official one, in 2021 they are making a lot of mistakes and I don't think their image it will benefit since the competition is increasingly fierce.
