Sensors and activities

A lot of sensors...for a lot of sports. Power meter, hr monitor(Garmin ANT+), hr monitor(dual for trainer app), cadence, footpod(treadmill), trainer, edge(extended display), AirPods, light. Everything works fine but when I change sport I have to turn off some sensor and turn on other, otherwise they conflict themselves and they don't work. For example, I run on treadmill but 945 doesn't read speed. Than I turn off trainer connection (close to treadmill) and 945 start reading. Or sometimes I start running and the bike light turn on... I'm tired to manually turn off every time light when I'm indoor, and turning on the day after for outdoor riding.

Is it possibile connect sensor To the activity? So I can choose (only when pairing the first time) what sensor turning on during run, only during run, and what sensors turning on when on the bike. They are different from when i ride on trainer, or when I ride on zwift. Say something like turn on researching A,B,C sensors only when I do X activity. And turn on B  sensor when I do Y activity.

  • This would be good. I have a Stryd and use that for running, but not walking. It gets a bit tiring going through the menus to disconnect it every time I want to log a walk and happen to have the Stryd in my pocket because I've just done a run.

  • Yesterday again...run on treadmill and the light on my bike turning on. Discodance light @ Watopia may field, ah ah ah

  • Micchei, agreed - I really hope Garmin implement this!

We need some way of assign connected / known sensors to each activity independently  - and then even also for copies of those activity types.

I take my running shoes in my bag to work with my Stryd connected, while I ride my bike, I can get 'Stryd' connect and then I get erroneous power meter data for my bike ride.

Similar to indoor use, use my stryd on my treadmill, get my stages smart bike connects to my 945.

  • This definitely makes sense to have happen.  I've been lucky in all of my instances it doesn't seem to mess with the data file, things like bike power meter pedals (watts & cadence), speed, and cadence sensors from bike don't effect my treadmill run data.  I will get a notice when I do brick workouts (bike to treadmill) where it says Speed or Power Connected... but never actually records or shows up.

  • Agreed! Now I name my sensors such that they are easier to find for particular activities, but it is not ideal.

If we all enter this idea here, there is a better chance of Garmin noticing.
