(solved) TopoActive Europe 2021.10 Maps too big!

the new TopoActive Europe 2021.10 Maps is too big! 9GB?

It's a Forerunner with limited memory. What shoud that? My memory is now completely full.
An MP3 album now only fits on it. Garmin has messed up with this update! The clock has just under 15GB.

Are you trying to reconnect to GE after restarting the watch?
  • Yes and I have a strange behaviour: the 2021.10 ins installed but I still the update notification in GE and get the usual error message.

OK same as F6. Still no solution!

  • I've just used @luca's method borrowed from Fenix forum and it worked. To be safe (or over cautious!) I copied the old .img files to a backup folder on my pc first in case I wanted to put them back. For this install I've just selected topo Europe because I'll not be going to the other mapped parts of the world any time soon.

I have to say that this issue is par for the course hereabouts in Garmin world, Generally good hardware, generally hardworking software team, generally introduce bugs with updates. Garmin lets itself and its "loyal" users down like this regularly. And life goes on.

  • And have you connected it back again with that? I tried that, and after it I connect it back it's again in the same situation it was.. There's an update!

  • The TopoActive EU 2021.10 update giving an insufficient space error continues to be worked on to find a resolution as quickly as possible. As soon as there is an official update from engineering on the workaround and/or solution, I will update this thread. Thank you to everyone for your patience. An update will be coming soon.

  • This approach, together with GE 7.5.0 update, that popped up after I restarted GE, did the trick for me on 6X.
    Thank you Luca! Blush

  • I too have a Garmin - Fenix 6X Sapphire that cannot upload the currently launched map updates.   Lots of chats on here suggest deleting this and that and I am certain Garmin would validly wash their hands of any responsibility or cost of damage done to any of their products by such 'unofficial' actions!

There also appears to be a resignation regarding the 'biblical' time Garmin take to fix things!

This is unacceptable and perhaps a 100,000 Garmin owners taking their products back as not of sufficient quality or fitness of purpose might jog the management into fixing what appear to be long-standing issues and issues that have repeated in the past?

The release of new maps that are too large is just plain incompetent and whoever is responsible should be sacked!

An unimpressive and unacceptable show from what at the price should be a premium products.
