Does anyone know what is the capacity of the internal battery (in mAh or even better in Wh)?

I'm planning for a new Forerunner (coming from an old 735)

For planning of a long tour abroad without power-sockets everywhere I should know the capacity of the internal battery for planning of the Powerbank and solar power supply.

Has anyone information about this?

Thanks a lot for every bit which helps for my decision.

  • OK, I now have the FR945 - I will test when it runs out of power.

  • I think it is 300 mAh. Of course, there are inefficiencies in using a battery to charge a battery, so you can't say "A 1200 mAh battery will charge the watch 4 times".

If you are going to be doing long tours, it is also worth investigating settings that will reduce power consumption:

    * GPS only rather than GLONASS/Gallileo
    * using text based datafields as your default screen, rather than graphical or mapping screens (you can scroll to these screens if you need to do a navigation check, but don't leave them as your active screen).
    * using stock Garmin watch faces rather than custom watch faces
    * turning the phone connection off except when you need it
    * reducing backlight intensity and using faster timeouts.
    * turn off PulseOx and music

  • For the FR 735 a recharging needed about 1.0 Wh (about 250 mAh for the internal battery capacity). As the 945 shows (apparently?) the precise residual capacity I'll check it when it reaches around 50%.

Thanks for the possible power reduction strategies, this will be checked also. Phone connection will not be an issue, Pulse Ox may be interesting as in elevated areas and datafields will only of very limited use for me, so they will be reduced to the minimum. Also I will strip or deactivate the 945 from all unneeded components (e.g. weather, deezer, fitness level etc...).

For GNSS the Glonass + GPS may be intersting as it covers the requested area pretty good.

  • I recharged from 64% to 100%. This required ~580 to 590 mWh, so concerning the losses from USB to internal battry, I assume the battery will take approx. 375 to 400 mAh / ~1400 mWh nominal.

I will update when I have some more figures.
