HRV-stress always 90-100 percent

I measure my HRV-stress every morning. For everyday during the past months (since I bought the watch basically) my stress-level is close to 100 percent. I balance training and rest pretty good and feel healthy in general. Anyone has similar experience? Bug in software? Bug in my heart? Bug in my brain?

Cheers,

Veronica

  • That is very strange.  A few things come to mind to look at.

1.)  Standing still, relaxed?  Wetted strap?

2.)  Are you using the same HRM strap in activities?  Getting good respiration and HR graphs (smooth without gaps?)  Get a Performance Condition value that is not too bad (higher than negative 1 or zero)

3.)  What model of HR strap are you using?

4.)  When standing there is the HR bpm shown bouncing around a lot or staying pretty steady?

5.)  With all watch issues... i'd try a hard shutdown, holding light button for ~30seconds until screen goes black

I only do the HRV Stress test once in awhile when I have extra time before a run, usually get anywhere from 4-35 , once or twice i have gotten a 50 , 60, or 70 i think.

  • Same here, always in the range from 90 to 100. hope is not any issue of any bug from me... :I

  • curious on items 1 thru 5, any input?  since other person 990### didn't every follow up on this.  mine usually is only high when hungover.  :-/  but I suppose some people have a naturally inconsistent heart beat?  Just as some people have very high or low resting heart rates (even if fairly fit or not fit)

Or some of the HR straps have issues with detecting HRV or if they are worn a bit off?  I always try to really strub my skin in that area with a exfoliating scrub before key races or workouts... lol (i'm weird...) lol

  • 1. Standing with wetted strap.
    2. HR-graphs are perfect. No gaps, no outliers. I don't pay much attention to performance condition values since they seem rather random. However, they usually vary between sessions as opposed to my HRV-measurments.
    3. Garmin HRM-Pro (the green one). I have tried a couple different of this make.
    4. The displayed heart-rate seems very reliable during HRV-measurment.
    5. I've tried hard reset but nothing changes. Stress-level always around 90, sometimes a 100. I have now given up HRV-measurments. I am actually not very interested in the automised analysis by Garmin anyways. I consider myself more capable to interpret raw sensordata myself. However, I would like to have access to HRV raw data so I could do the analysis myself.

  • You guys can try using Elite HRV, an app on your mobile which connects directly with your HRM

    https://elitehrv.com/

  • What's your Heart Rate like when you stand? And what is your resting HR like?

  • About 75 dtanding up and 55 at rest.

  • HR and HRV have relationship.

If you look at your HR and Stress graphs on your Garmin, they are quite correlated. ie high HR -> high stress.

There is a study on this.

  • Android/iOS app like HRV4Training or ithlete allows you to capture and analyse HRV data by yourself in Kubios or what have you.

I would try checking Garmin Stress score in sitting vs. standing position. If the measurement and analysis on the device is correct, one should see much lower value of Stress score in sitting or supine position.

I've personally never tried Stress score on Garmin devices but found Body battery which uses HRV as proxy for all day measurements pretty reliable.
