FW 6.20: possible wrong HR measuring OHR vs HRM Pro during the first 10 to 30min in a base run workout?

Since a while I have had an incorrect heart rate reading on my base workouts (running), not every workout, even though on very slow workouts,
but i run at a constant slow pace, my heart rate is measured far too high for the first 10 to 30 minutes, then from 1 minute to the other i get the correct values.

Instead of 115bpm to 129bpm i get over 140bpm to over 150bpm, but this is totally impossible, after a while the HR goes down to a value arround 120bpm to 130bpm
an looks correct.

I have the problem with HRM Pro as well as with HRM Dual, which otherwise work perfectly with my Edge 830,
walking or meditating (very low arround 40bpm) is also properly recorded with correctly hr reading on FR945.

I am not sure, it looks like i have this problem since the last FW 6.20 release!

Is it possible, that the OHR is measuring the first 10 to 30 minutes wrong values instead of HRM Pro or HRM Dual?

  • Hi, since you have the 830, would you be willing to do a quick test on your next ride? Your chest strap should be able to be paired to both devices at the same time, I would be curious to see the graphs if they match; if they do, and are accurate, probably going into the run profile settings then scrolling down to restore to defaults. That would imply that the issue is only occurring in the running profile.

If the Edge and the 945 are different, then we know the watch isn't picking up the HRM-Pro or Dual, right away.

  • I have the same problem. I am on Zwift, there is no problem with my HR (I am connected do the zwift and FR945 at the same time). But when i run, my HR is pretty crazy. I do o 5:30/km and it shows me 80bpm which is impossible. This problem is occued after 6.20 updtade! Please fix it.

  • very good idea, i will try on saturday!

    The only uncertainty factor:
cycling with Edge i do always indoor and running only outdoor
possibly a contact problem of the strap himself because it is colder outside?

  • how you measure your HR, with OHR or a special strap?
nobody can fix a problem, when there are not all details available of a problem!

  • Today before my base run I wet the heart rate belt with water completely, with success, the heart rate was correct from the start.

Would it be possible for Garmin to implement something like the HRV Stress Test or Lactate Threshold Guided Test to check whether an HR belt is connected?

The good thing, my vo2max and Race Predictor time increased! Innocent
