Forerunner 945 Tri bundle

I have the 935 tri bundle and am curious can I just buy the 945 watch and use the HR straps, charger, etc.?  Or do I really need the whole package.

  • you sure can. that's what I did

  • you can, I did the same, but I regret updating to 945. Good to have the maps but the GPS accuracy and GPS locking issues are painful. Also if you run with 945 using HR strap + maps (no SpOX, no music) then you will have about 12 hours of activity time, 36 hours as per spec might be achieved without navigation. My GPS mode is on every 1 sec to have a better accuracy than the "smart" mode.

Just on the mapping and battery issue.

Constantly re-rendering the map as you move along is very processor (and battery) intensive. If you leave the map screen as your main display, yes it will chew battery. If you have a data screen as your main display, and just scroll to the map screen whenever you need to do a navigation check, you should get close to the rated specs. If you set the order of the screens up right, you should be able to access the map with just a single button press.

The other major variable with battery consumption is backlight. Lower the intensity (down to 5-10%), shorten the timeout, and change the settings to After Sunset. You may already be doing some of these, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
