People with clicky buttons, have they stayed clicky?

I have a revD 945 and the down button is basically dead zero tacticle feedback. Do watches with clicky buttons stay clicky?

  • I replaced my original watch due to the "button issue" and the new one was more "clicky" but still not ideal (right side buttons decidedly more clicky than the left side).

It's mostly annoying when accessing widgets using those two bottom-left buttons, and particularly annoying when wearing gloves as there is very little tactile feedback with the dampening effect of the gloves.  Having a "click" in that scenario is far preferable.

In the end though, I'd say the underwhelming battery life of my 945 is far more disappointing than this aspect though.

  • They perform their function properly giving tactile feedback. A watch is something you interact with and having mushy buttons that barely move makes the experience of using the watch feel slow and cumbersome. Clicky buttons feel fast and sure which makes the watch feel faster and more satisfying to use. Some of the buttons offer tactile feedback so there is quality control issue going on. Why stick crap buttons on an otherwise amazing watch.

I don't want to enable sound tones because of the features of this watch I use it way more than say my old FR10 which was fine with audio tones enables but I wasn't pressing buttons so much since there wasn't much to do on it.

I've actually got dents on my thumb and finger tips from the buttons having to push them in so hard. My friends 945 all the buttons are clicky and feel great as is the same with my 935. I hope the 955 has buttons like the 935.

  • That's it it's going up and down the widgets those up/down buttons really pushing my thumb into the button and it's pushing into the button casing it actually hurts a bit. I think buttons are important it's like having a worn out button on a video game controller yeah it works but it feels annoying to use.

  • Unfortunately no. Maybe better design next time.

  • Some bloody stupid and unhelpful opinions shared as usual! Just because the button works, it doesn’t mean it works as it should do in terms of quality, design and customer experience.

Yes, buttons normally click and provide tactile feedback - no one is disputing this. The issue is buttons which can’t decide whether they want to stick, mush or crunch.

I’ve had this issue on mine since purchase last year. The only reason I haven’t replaced it is due to convenience and the hassle of having to customise all the unique settings again.

None of us are fools who don’t understand how a button functions. But when it clicks perfectly then doesn’t and sticks and crunches then there is no disputing that’s it’s a quality issue. Just because you haven’t experienced the issue, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The answer is, accept the poor quality or replace it under warranty.

  • The answer is, accept the poor quality or replace it under warranty.

There is also another solution. Just return back the watch and avoid 945 if you are particular about the buttons.

It is a manufacturing defect on the 945. The buttons on the 45 are much better.

For me, I accept the poor quality because I think I am likely to face the same issue on the replacement 945 or probably worst and I have to go through all the trouble setting up the watch plus waiting time again.

  • I had a RevA replaced by a FevD witch is now due to exchange again. Down, up and lap button are swishy and start loosing responsiveness. I have to look every time to see if it worked.

called Garmin but they messed up sending me the RMA papers.
I’m already convinced to use the replacement only for Sport in the future and use an Apple Watch for day to day.

Yes some of us are. Not all buttons click equally, some never at all but the key point is do they work? Do they move when you press them? Can you feel them move when you press them? The click is largely irrelevAnt. The function is everything.

IMHO it is not just the buttons being clicky or not, I had a 935 with a 'soft' start button and thought nothing of it, until it stopped working completely. A real bummer if the warranty is expired, so if you have warranty (and patience, and a backup watch because depending on where you live, it sometimes takes up to 3 months) RMA-ing is best.

Sticks and crunches?  You have a defective watch and should return it if you're buttons don't work properly.  What were you saying about fools and understanding how buttons functions? Slight smile  This thread is addressing the click feel and not defective buttons.  Two different topics.
