Is there a way to backup (and restore) a watch configuration?

I am aware that this same question has been asked already, but to solve it I only could find the following link referring to Garmin's support site:

This really should be feature in GCM and/or GE. Making you do all the work is stupid and not user friendly.

Do keep in mind that VO2max (and lactate treshold) values are NOT backed up... You'll need to re0generate those.

These can actually be restored via Physio True Up.

Also, I suppose Garmin is trying to not make it easy (with the likes of VO2max and thresholds not being backed-up) because if you were able to completely backup / restore the state of a watch, then you could start sharing a device amongst multiple people, and that is certainly not the business model here.

Even if I could easily backup my watch, how would I get 24/7 HR, sleep data and others not wearing the watch 24/7. I can't see that something you should need to worry if you could easily backup your data. And I would accept those not being backed up as the major pain is the settings and sports. Also there should be some "migration tool" for new watches to get all the compatible settings to new watches. The experience getting possible 955 and doing side-by-side configuration is painful and not really nice experience for the user.
