Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_604Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-550.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-550.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
    1. Makes gps even worser for me, Garmin, are you able to produce software and hardware that works? Standing since 9 minutes outside at the same place in vienna, no gps. I'm realy pisse off, every change you made in firmware makes it worser not better, thanks for making me spending a lot of money for a not working device.
  • Sorry I can't help with your issues as it works fine for me.

As this is a beta I assume you've contacted the beta team and supplied the necessary logs to assist in their troubleshooting

  • Has nothing to do with beta or so, Garmin  is not able to fix this issue since the beginning. Maybe it has to do with the location, because a lot of people living in vienne have this ridiculous problem.  Same rhing as years ago with index scale where garmin wasnt able or willing to fix there own timeserver or fix the firmware. I think they are not interested in after buy things/support. I hope someone from garmin  reads this and starts to solve the problem. Just to remember the old 935 needs less then a minute, same location same weather everything the same. It is the hardware or software of 945.

  • A full GPS lock can take up to twelf minutes. This is in the GPS Standard and Garmin can’t change it. They try to trick the system with Epo files, wich is working most times.

  • And why is it working with 935 and not working with 945? And before asking, the cpe file is actual and a sync is done before the run....... and yes i tried factory reset and all the stupid things that did not help.

  • Because that is a total different watch with a different chipset. In Grenzsituationen wie deiner kann das den Unterschied machen.

  • So this means the new watch works not as good as the old one? But they promised that the sony chip is much better, but it isn't. But i have seen so many bugs with garmin devices, maybe it is like when i got my edge 1030 where it was not possible le to do initial wifi setup with german language, you need to set english, then it works. Or the sntp bug with the index scale where garmin needs years to fix it. And it is always the same with support, do a factory reset (never worked on any device for me) and than send us the device (also mo effect me, send them the index scale 2 times) the sntp problem was solved by a user in the forum and the fix was absolutely simple.

  • But they promised that the sony chip is much better,

Where? It uses less energy, but is there some other promises?

And yes, accuracy wise it's downgrade. Hopefully next one will have dual channel to help accuracy issues.

  • Recent test by bloggers like DCR also show that the Sony chip in it's current state is as good as the older chips.

Personally, apart from bridge issues, it seems pretty good to me considering the amount of power it uses. Just give it like 10 min before the start of an activity to acquire a solid GPS lock.
