Garmin 945 Recorded Sleep mode Incorrectly

Dear Garmin,

I have updated to the latest software yesterday and the data recorded wrongly. I was awake at 5am and it shows REM, sleeping time are all incorrect too.

Before you asked further
1) Yes, I have updated software to version 5.5
2) Yes, I have set the sleeping time and awake time.
3) Attached image of my sleep, was awake at 5am for an hour, it shows REM, I went to sleep and awake again at bout 6am, it shows REM...

If the sleeping time is incorrect, does it mean other info like Oxi, stress and the rest are wrong too? How much can I trust the data now?

Many thanks and hoping to hear from you soon.

  • Dear Garmin,

The only way to be sure that Garmin know about your problem is to contact Garmin Support yourself. This is primarily a peer-to-peer forum.

Here you’ll get the same comments that have already appeared in countless threads about this.

  • You can't trust the data regardless. You 945 doesn't measure sleep. It measures movement (or lack of movement) combined with heart rate data including HRV (which isn't very accurate for an optical HR sensor anyway). You need to measure brain wave activity to measure sleep accurately.

With regards to your item number 2: Setting sleep and wake times only switches the device to 'do not disturb'. It has no effect on the measured sleep times.

  • If you are awake and stay in bed and/or make very little movements the watch will believe that you still are asleep. It looks like the watch logged that you were awake just after 5, then you were still for maybe 30 minutes, then moved around a little and went back to sleep again.

Check the movements. That will tell you a lot how the watch logged it since it mainly uses your movements to see if you are sleeping or are awake.

Thanks for the info. Indeed the 'do not disturb' was off all this while. Best is to contact Garmin to obtain the solutions. Thx again
