Foot pod and RDP

Hi everyone, have any of you tried using a foot pod together with RDP? I noticed that the instant pace is not accurate, it has a lot of rhythm variations, I would like to add it to my current RDP with which you measure all other metrics. Here on the forum I had read that the new Garmin foot pod should have been released (they have long since retired the old one), but for now they have not presented anything.

  • I use it all the time, although not with the 945 (until recently I used the 735XT, and now an F6). No issues with pace whatsoever. Make sure that footpod as pace source is set to "Always", because AFAIK by default it is only used when GPS is not available.

  • Thank you very much and what I needed to know, for the calibration do you use the automatic mode?

  • I had  been using a garmin foot pod for the treadmill but recently added a stryd pod after hearing garmin praising it and it's CIQ work during the developer conference. I had to calibrate it slightly on the track after my first several runs came up shorter than what I was used to (based on years of using garmin GPS with different watches). However the discrepancy was within the GPS margin of error.

I switched the distance/pace to the stryd pod and have been enjoying the power training metrics. Before I had a run pod and I also have the hrm pro which gives power but no guidance or way to use power as part of a plan. If you are in the market for a foot pod, spend some time looking into stryd.

    Yes.

  • sorry for all the replies. I guess mobile went crazy today. I deleted the dups.

  • I know Stryd thanks, but for my chances it costs too much, with RDP and Running power (even if they will not be 100% accurate) I get the values I need, I think I will add a Suunto mini pod if Garmin does not put a new foot pod in a short time.

  • Very poor Italian Garmin assistance, I ask the same thing as my treat: first on FB and I answer myself to update (the 5.50 has more than a month) or to write to the support, I write to them and I answer to buy RDP wrote that I already used it. Luckily the support should solve users' problems, there are more useful answers on the forum than in assistance, at least in Italy.

  • The Italian support replied to me for the second time telling me that the speed of the foot pod is contained in RDP, but I think it is not possible since it is not calibratable and I think it does not work without GPS like the foot pod. Have any of you tried RDP on a treadmill? Garmin no longer produces foot pods like Suunto (I wrote to him), Decathlon has also removed them from the catalog, only Polar still produces it but it does not work with Garmin and Stryd costs too much, the market perhaps does not require them anymore but how do you run on the treadmill or in an area with poor GPS?

  • Sorry @tmk2, I finally found the zwift runpod that will arrive next week, you already told me that the speed must always be configured footpod, the distance instead? GPS or better footpod? Thanks

  • I use

    speed: always

distance: only when gps not available

But it's up to you. I do not claim that this is the best configuration.
