I do not understand Garmin Anaerobic Training Effect for Tempo and Threshold Runs

When I do the Tempo and Threshold Runs from the daily suggested workout Garmin give me a Prognosis for Anaerob Training Effect of 2.0

(see the 7 run type desciptions in https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/daily-workout-suggestions-for-runners/).

After the run the Aerobic Training Effect match perfect when I follow correctly pace & heart rate. But after the run I always get an recorded Anaerob Training Effect of 0.0.

In this runs are very view pace changes (warm up – tempo – cool down) and it seems that the requested heart rate zone is also not high enough for an Anaerob Training Effect.

Why Garmin make a prognosis of Anaerob Training Effect of 2.0 for such sessions?

Wrong HRmax? Should not be a reason, because I’m definitely in the requested HR target zone (even if the zone is not any longer correct).

Wrong Lactate Threshold? No idea. I do not get any automatic updates since performing the daily suggested workouts.

I only see that Tempo Run Pace is exactly my Lactate Threshold Pace, but actually I can run the session with lower heart rate as marked in my Lactate Threshold. But my real HR is the one requested for the Tempo Run.

In Threshold Runs I have to run quite faster than my Lactate Threshold Pace and I run with my latest recorded Lactate Threshold HR. But my real HR is the one requested for the Threshold Run.

  • I have the same effect. For me the estimated aerobic training effect (before) is also lower than the effect displayed after the run but both values are at least similar. I am using my 945 since May 2019, so Garmin has enough data from me for better estimations. The suggested training is a nice idea but by far not perfect.

  • I just looked at my Today's Suggested Run, and it was a threshold run with 3.5 aerobic and 0.0 anaerobic forecast.

The link you provide does not seem to indicate you would expect any anaerobic TE from threshold and tempo runs. The example it does provide for anaerobic is sprint intervals.

Can you post a screenshot of the type of intervals it is recommending along with the forecast TE?

My understanding of the anaerobic TE algorithm is that the RATE OF INCREASE in HR is more important than the level of HR reached.

  • Can you post a screenshot of the type of intervals it is recommending along with the forecast TE?

Yes I will, but after my last sessions and new year's eve night I just got a recovery run.Unamused

But you can see it already on the Firstbeat and Garmin pages:

    https://www.firstbeatanalytics.com/en/features/workout-labels/

    https://discover.garmin.com/en-US/performance-data/running/#training-effect-samples

Ok, they state 0-2.0 or <2.0 for the ANAEROBIC TRAINING EFFECT for steady Tempo and Threshold sessions, but I swear that in my daily suggested Tempo and Threshold sessions I have a prognosis of 2.0 ANAEROBIC TRAINING EFFECT even than that were steady runs.

There is no rate of increase of the heart rate in this sessions. Therefore this question.
