Suggested Workout - Four Identical Workouts in a Row?

According to Connect, my training status is seriously unbalanced.   My anaerobic load is 45 (way below the oval), my high aerobic is 1654 (way past the oval), and my low aerobic is 805 (which extends into the oval).  So what is my suggested workout for the day?  It's a Base run of 42 minutes.  The only difference between today's and yesterday's suggested workout is that the pace has increased from 10:45 to 10:40.

WTF?  I don't see how this is going to help my anaerobic load.

Also, a five second difference in pace is immaterial.  I supposed I should run yesterday's course in reverse so I don't completely fall asleep.

End of complaint.

Updates below:

  • I like that answer.  I don't know if it's true, but I like it.

(Garmin did give me a Rest Day on Christmas after I ran 8 miles in Jacksonville the day before.)

  • Training programs work on micro(short cycles) and macro (long cycles) with recovery periods in between. We're not privy to all the calculations Garmin use nor are we privy to the cycles. However, if you consider that training programs based on TRIMP calculations usually involve acute (~7 day) and chronic (~7 weeks) analysis then it is quite possible that the result form the Garmin suggested workouts is involving more than the most recent training.

When you throw in 'non-suggested' workouts you cannot expect the Garmin suggested workouts to do what you want/expect it to do. I've said it before, doing workouts other than what Garmin suggest is very much like second guessing a coach. You either do what the coach says or you get another coach.

  • I've just completed my 4th base workout in 4 days, 76, 43, 56 and 65 minutes all based on heart rate.

On day 3 it said it was to build up my weekly mileage. The day before this 4 day streak began was a rest day and before that a tempo run was suggested but I had a 5k effort pencilled in so did that instead.

I don't have a problem with it for now as there are no races and my estimated VO2 Max has gone up this week, just a bit strange to have 4 very similar workouts in a row.

  • Just checked today's suggested workout and it's an anaerobic session, 3x4x40 seconds Thumbsup

  • Hello Fredrik_Coulter, perhaps we should pay more attention to the second sreen of the daily suggestions to better understand the reason behind the suggested workout.

Today I got a Recovery Run with the following statement: “Active recovery or rest is suggested due to poor sleep last night.”

Well said after the new year's eve night.Joy

  • Today is the FOURTH day of the identical workout suggestion. (My VO2 just dropped a point and the suggested pace slowed down by 0:05/mile.) And the reason given has been identical all four days : This workout is suggested to keep your overall training load balanced.

  • Mine haven't been merely all Base workouts. They've been identical in duration. The pace changed slightly when my VO2 score changed.

  • Fun fact: as soon as the holidays where over, it gave me a recommendation for a sprint interval training
