New FR945 and already 5 GPS disconnections in a 7 km Hike

Hi all. Just took my shiny new FR945 on a family hike and it shave 2.5km off a 7 km hike. The track has 5 moments where it must have disconnected and then reconnected, showing a nice straight line between the two points. Has anyone got any advice for this issue? Thank you!

Firstly change the recording from "Smart" to "Every second". Change the GPS mode to have GPS+GLONASS or something better suited for your region. Disable "auto pause".

Hi!

First, a link to the activity would be minimum to provide when asking such questions.

Second: there is no second because we know nothing about the trail you took on your hike, its geography and possible GPS blocking features.

Hi. Thanks a lot for your help. I’m new to forums. What can I supply you? I had auto pause on, yes. Does this mean you till I shouldn’t use it for hiking? I’ve been doing this for 20years on Garmin watches! I had GPS+GLONASS on also btw. Every second recording, will this nit severely drain the battery on long hikes?

It is. It's auto pause. Look at the seconds when it "jumps". There isn't anything recorded during the jump.

And for the battery drain, it depends really how long will you really need to to be able to record..

Ah. So auto pause stopped but didn’t start again until some time later? How do you explain that it was still giving turn-by-turn navigation the whole time? Seems strange bit to be able to use auto-pause. I use it in all my Garmin devices, really good on my Edge 530. Is there something wrong with my FR945 then do you think?

Well, if you cycle as fast as you did hike, I would guess that the auto pause would cause problems.

It's fenix 5, but it's basicly the same thing with 945.

Hardly any good experiences with autopause here either... You need to be stopped for a while for it to trigger and then moving for a while (few 100m?) for it to turn off again. Most annoying moment was during a hike in Austria where we were climbing a pretty steep hill and the watch thought I was hardly moving (mianly because movement was vertical vs horizontal).

But indeed, during the 'blanks' there seems to be hardly any movement so makes sense it doens't trigger.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Got it - NO AUTO PAUSE!
