Sleep Widget, Sleep Score and Sleep Insight. Firstbeat Sleep Algorithm.

Hi,

I am sure this has been asked before but I didn't find any definitive answer.

will Sleep Widget, Sleep Score and Sleep Insight come to the forerunner 945? and if yes why it is taking so long (6 months since Garmin introduced the new sleep widget).

Also this new widget and sleep analysis should be based on Firstbeat algorithm (Garmin acquired Firstbeat). I think it should be better than the old/current sleep analysis done by Garmin which I find not accurate at all.

One last thing is that I don't understand how Garmin advertise the watch as having Advance sleep data including sleep score and insights while in reality it is not available. check the below snapshot from forerunner product page on the main garmin.com website:  Garmin Forerunner® 945 | Premium Running Watch

  • If not available then why list in the specs?

Who says it's not there? It's just not visible. How important is it? After all it's just a numerical attempt to give some metric for the quality of sleep.

I don't need a number, app, or widget to tell me how good or bad I slept. I know. A number won't make the slightest difference.

it is not there, because you have sync your watch in order to get sleep data. Once update is out, it will be computed on watch itself.

you are 100% right. However, if you stretch this thinking you don't really need watch to track your runs as well. If watch is advertised with certain set of features, it is fair to expect those features will work as expected. If you don't use them, it is your choice.

  • I dont think something will happen this year:
They never released betas near big holidays or such. I think they know to much people without knowledge install betas and they dont want a shitstorm over Christmas when something went wrong. Most people dont care if a beta is not working perfectly, if its only, it has to be a public release (labeled wrong) in their opinion. If you need examples, look up all the complaints about batterie usage of betas.

  • Trust me,  it hasn't improved much.  I have the fenix 6 and its pretty meaningless.  last night i slept 5 hours.  only 2 hours straight.  woke up every hour.  feel like ***.   Garmin said i have a calm sleep and that my excercise yesterday led to a good nights sleep.   You pretty much have to look at the graph and come to your own conclusion.  Trust me, you aren't missing much.

  • I don't agree, it has improved a lot on very basic levels, like detecting the time I start to sleep and wake up. Much better now as it used to be.

  • For me the new sleep score functionality that came with the Beta has also made my sleep tracking much better - the times I actually go to sleep (and not just lie still) or wake up are more accurately reflected.

  • Yep, the same. Like the old one might think I'm sleeping when I'm already working on my laptop... Those hours were generally hour or two too much :)
