How to find exact recorded running distance

Hi there,

how to find exact recorded running distance?

Garmin displays running distance in kilometres with two decimal points. Basically , Garmin rounds distance to ten meters.

is there any way to find recorded distance without rounding. Actually, I am looking for distance to nearest meter.

  • I don't think it's available anywhere, and anyway GPS-measured distance has an unpredictable error which on average is much more than 10 meters for runs that are several kilometers long, so I'm not sure if that kind of information would be of any use.

  • I used a foot pod (Stryd) while running on a measured track. So, GPS averaging is not an issue.

  • Foot pods are not that accurate either. Stryd - when asked about accuracy - refers to this 3rd party test. According to this test - while indeed being very accurate for this kind of device - the average distance error is 3 meters per kilometer.

  • Stryd is a very nice foot pod but by far the holy grail, i took a measuring wheel to a track and laid out 400 meres and did run 3200m and 9600m that gave me a correction of 102,4. With other words on 10K i was roughly 250 to 300 meters short.

  • If you are running on a 400m track, try the Track Run activity.

  • oh my - please read on how GPS signals are produced and how they are managed by consumer products....

The distance recorded is the distance!  it isn't even accurate to two decimal places in most cases!   you can reprocess it with different algorithms (strava and others...) but it is still an estimated distance based on readings recorded and hypothetical route.

Footpods are just as bad - pace and stride length/rate are NOT consistent and don't fall into a pattern/scatterplot that is 100% repeatable

    This!

Seriously, trying to measure down to the meter when there is an inherent GPS error of 5 meters is a false level of precision.

Course distances for sanctioned events are measured with a wheel for a reason.

  • If you cannot answer the question, you may better keep silent.

If I ask the question, This means I need it for something.

  • I'm sorry if the truth hurts, but expecting an answer to the meter from a technology that has a circular probable error of 5 meters is a ridiculous question.

You might need it for something, but you will have to look at alternative technologies to provide that level of precision.

Speaking of questions, you may get more helpful suggestions if you were specific about your use case, rather than just "something".
