Suggested Training - Lags between Kickr Core and Forerunner 945 ?

Hi,

i use the suggested trainings but today within my training I had some sprints with 500 Watts for 10 seconds.

Unfortunately the Kickr Core and Forerunner 945 are in my opinion not fast enough to these kinds of short sprints because the Kickr needs some time to switch to 500 Watts.

What can I do that my Kickr Core will faster switch to the 500 Watts ?

Thanks for your advice.

  • For sprints like that, really probably want to not be in ERG mode (if that is what you mean by 'switch').  Might go over or under on a couple of them, but once you get the cadence/power dialed in a bit, should be good.  For 10sec really its just about grittin and pumpin out nearly all you have!!!

  • because the Kickr needs some time to switch to 500 Watts

There's also an element of your physical ability in play here too. How big is the jump from where you start to 500W? This is a bit like the runners who feel the watch is not able to detect pace change quick enough too. Simply put, for short sprints on the bike or on foot, the best thing to do is just to go for it. By the time you've accelerated up to the desired level it's more than likely time to decelerate to the recovery interval. And the other side of the coin is that if you are focussing on the numbers then you are not concentrating on the sprint.

I cannot comment on your ability to generate power but it's unlikely you'll go to 500W instantly. Your physiology and fitness will determine that. There is an inherent lag in any recording equipment too.

    As noted:

For 10sec really its just about grittin and pumpin out nearly all you have!!!
  • You wouldn't to use a trainer that switched faster to 500 watts. It would be like riding into a brick wall.

Can't speak for the Kickr specifically, but generally the ramp up and the ramp down means you should get the desired time at wattage anyway.

  • 1. Do you know what's the "goal" of the Garmin suggested training plans ?

I'm actually would like to stay fit because I don't have any specific training goal.

    2. Which training mode do you suggest for the Kick Core based on the link below ?

    3. When I do the Garmin FTP-Test do you know the exact procedure ? At high Watt Levels I'm not anymore in the green area. Should I then stop the training ? In my opinion the procedure isn't detailed enough and because of that I couldn't finish my FTP-Test.

    4. Which performance measure would you suggest e.g. HRV, Heart Rate, Watts and why ? Need your tipps for cycling and running.

    Thanks for your advice ;)
