Fluke in HR reading during activity messed up load focus and recovery time

I replaced a watch recently (due to sticky buttons issue), and when the new one arrived updated it to 5.5 firmware version that was just released.

Not sure if related, but since then the stress manual measurement displays "check watch fit" for about 90% of the time.

This despite my best efforts to  wear the watch according to the manual instructions. I never got this message on the previous watch.

Yesterday, while I used the meditate activity the heart rate data went completely crazy, even though before it was just fine.

It included some period of ~250bpm heart rate. After the activity I noticed it was scored 5 aerobic + 5 anerobic (for sitting down steady for 30 min!!!) and affected the training focus + added 4 days to recovery time!

I deleted the activity (from the watch, phone, connect) yet the training focus and recovery time remained the same even the next day,

recommending me to go easy with the high anerobic activity (which, currently, I don't do at all).

How to fix it? restoring the watch to factory defaults?

  • I went through the same issue today with a 5mile easy jog... failed HRM strap, resulted in a TE of 5.0 and a Load of 508!  Nearly the load of an entire week for me!  You can delete from watch/Connect... but yeah, the 'Load' still shows up, says I am productive, high training impact blablah... not true!  So now everything is mssed up for at least the next 7 days, plus lookingback it will always look like I was training very hard this week... ugh.   At least strava got smart and set it up so that you can manually adjust training impacts if needed.  And/or edit with FitFileTools website... and re-import to get a more realistic training load.

  • This was brought up to Garmin's attention many times and devs have never done anything to address it. Yes the only way to quick fix it for you is Factory reset.

  • Having same problem, i think it started with last firmware update. I really hope they'll fix this.

  • Have YOU contacted GARMIN support?

  • Unfortunately it did not. It is a problem ever since the Training status was introduced couple years back.
