Software Version 5.50 - Forerunner 945 - Live

Update can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Clarification: For those of you who received 5.40 this update only includes the following:

Addressed an issue that caused VO2 Max update and Training Status to not update

If you have not yet received Version 5.40, then the update will include the above, as well as everything that was previously in 5.40 which I have included below.

- Fixed an issue that caused CIQ watch faces to display 0 calories.
- Added improvements to prevent dropped phone connection.
- Other minor improvements and bug fixes.
- Fix an iOS reconnection issue on some phones.

  • Most probably this is a problem with GCM. I do not think the watch has a direct impact on the GCM App behaviour. Maybe something like a problem with reading the fit file generated by the FR945 (caused either by a buggy file created by the watch or some bug on the App side).

  • I think the bug is that the watch create a bug file and send that to the phone...beceause it was immediately after firmware watch update...

  • The 5.5 was introduced to ROW watches first. Strange that these users didn't face the crash issue? I did not face this crash issue on my APAC 945. Maybe I was lucky.

  • For today's suggestion, I'm supposed to run at 5:10 min/km for 50min.

Can include a warm up run first? Then lap button to proceed to today's suggestion?

  • Have you looked at. the steps for the workout? I'd be surprised if there is not a warm-up included.

  • Depends on the run type I think, if it's a base workout then no warmup. That's what I see anyway. Tempo runs etc have a warmup/cooldown step.

  • You are right. It's a base workout.

Woah I can run at 5:10 min/km but this isn't a pace for my warm up. I usually run my warm up at 6:00.

  • Yes I looked at the steps. It's a base workout so someone mentioned warm up is part of the base.

I feel the pace is too fast for a warm up even though I can run at that pace or 4 min/km for 1.5 mile.

I can't get the update, "Sending Software Update" in GCM shows a progress bar, goes halfway but no further, then shows "Sync failed". It's been that way for hours. The current SW on the watch is: 4.40, GPS 4.40, WiFi 2.60, CIQ 3.1.7, BMX 0.5.2, WHR 20.04.70, ANT/BLE/BT 5.04, Sensor Hub 4.01. It does sync, but then returns to Sending Software Update.

Updating via Express is not possible (only Linux here). So if anyone has a download link, that would be great!

I restarted the watch and the phone. Phone has current GCM 4.37.2. Sync does work, just not the update. The watch has 7.6 Gb memory free.

There was a small separate update on the watch that installed very quickly, something about "Voice prompts". There was a CPE.BIN in the RemoteSW folder. No other temp files found. EVNTLOGS contained a file with lots of entries that I can't make sense of.

Update: I put the beta 5.32 on it, so the gap in versions would not be so large, but the same thing happens. Why not a simple download link for regular releases, just as betas? Why oh why? This exact same update failure happened with my Fenix 3 and it's always been the same story; "Linux users are such a small minority, it's not profitable to arrange something for them" - but this is just publicizing one URL.. not costly, not a great effort.

The Epix would have been great if Garmin had not abandoned it. It was marketed as premium - the only Garmin watch with maps at the time - priced premium - uptake wasn't as great as expected, probably the form factor playing a role, but then forgetting about the product and the customers that bought it, was, let's say, less than ideal. Nevertheless I've used it until a year ago for the maps, and as a backup for my FR935.
