Software Version 5.50 - Forerunner 945 - Live

Update can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Clarification: For those of you who received 5.40 this update only includes the following:

Addressed an issue that caused VO2 Max update and Training Status to not update

If you have not yet received Version 5.40, then the update will include the above, as well as everything that was previously in 5.40 which I have included below.

- Fixed an issue that caused CIQ watch faces to display 0 calories.
- Added improvements to prevent dropped phone connection.
- Other minor improvements and bug fixes.
- Fix an iOS reconnection issue on some phones.

  • Is it an APAC model? They seem to be months behind on updates.

  • Alas it’s back to 2.2-3.5% per hour again.

Fully charged before bed. Worn it Overnight and now it’s at 79% at 07:20.

    something isn’t right...

  • the same here, massive battery drain since 5.5. 24h with no activity, no music, no gps, no VO . From 100% to 34% . Come please fix this Garmin

Because of the massive battery drain, I had a chat with Support, and they offered I can send in my Forerunner 945. I don't think it's a problem with my device since so many other users also complain here. So when will you let us know whether this really is a problem with the Firmware update (and provide a fix), please?

  • Had high battery drain since 5.30 upgrade. Battery lasts about 1 day. All the usual resets, connects to PCs have all been done. Have spoken to Garmin via chat and e-mail, and sent a whole heap of stuff to them. The only response I get is when I chase them - looking at this thread there's clearly something gone wrong recently which is impacting a number of people. Garmin - please sort this out for us.

  • After power of/on sequence I connected the 945 to my pc again. And now it is back to good old normal battery life.

  • I’ve not had any battery issues with 5.50, currently averaging 0.5% p/h with Pulse Ox set to during sleep only, Wifi off.

Not sure what causes this battery issue but I’m not convinced it’s version specific. Must be some sort of config code glitch.

Try changing the watch face to a Garmin one, or different Garmin one. Change music option to Control phone and Wifi off before doing a soft reset then change it all back.

Sometimes changes like this seem to jolt the watch back to normality. Let us know if it works.

  • Agreed - I think its Watch faces - not re-installed my favorite watch face 'Fusion' and just using a standard one for now - I'm back to normal battery usages again.

  • I've not done anything with watch faces and go with stock. I think my issue has been with Blue Tooth - I suspect that somehow, the watch is continually trying to talk to other devices for whatever reason.

The good news is that whatever the issue is, it has gone away. Yesterday at some point it just started being normal. I made no changes, didn't restart etc. The only thing the watch did (other than telling the time) was a "Bike Indoor" where it linked with Zwift for HR, but then lost the connection and didn't reconnect for the whole session. Not sure if things were sorted at this point, but it would tie in with the BT theory.

  • Maybe worth incorporating a switch off of Bluetooth before a soft reset too then. Again, might be the additional jolt needed to stabilise the behaviour.
