No VO2Max data since 5.09 software update, "No Status" Training Status

I had manually installed the 5.09 beta software update and I didn't realize it at first, but my runs stopped recording VO2 Max data points and I had no Perf Condition recorded either. Now I'm on the 5.30 software and I still have no VO2Max data recorded, no Perf Cond recorded, and a few days ago my Training Status changed to "No Status" so I have no daily training recommendations, etc.

I contacted Garmin support but the support person seemed to think I must not be running hard\long enough for VO2Max data. This is wrong, I am. They had me delete the Activity, Monitor, NewFiles and RemoteSW folders from the watch, but this doesn't seem to have affected the issue.

Has anyone else run into this bug?

I went back and forth on software updates some and got V02Max data back again when I reverted to the 5.0.0 software but ever since upgrading from 5.0.0 again I have no VO2MAX data and No Perf Cond. Here's the timeline and the results I've observed from when the problem first started:

  1. Oct 1 - Updated to 5.09 beta software manually
    1. Threshold run: 47:48
      1. No VO2Max
      2. No Perf Cond
    2. Base run: 1:14:53
      1. No VO2Max
      2. No Perf Cond
  2. Oct 6 - Noticed irregular HR spikes on activities so I Reverted to 5.0.0 software which forced a watch Reset so I had to set it up again like new
    1. Sprint run: 49:57
      1. Recorded VO2Max data point again!
      2. Recorded Perf Cond again!
    2. Tempo run: 50:02
      1. Recorded VO2Max data point again!
      2. Recorded Perf Cond again!
    3. Tempo run: 1:11:06
      1. Recorded VO2Max data point again!
      2. Recorded Perf Cond again!
    4. Base TRAIL run: 1:22:35
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
    5. Base run: 1:04:01
      1. Recorded VO2Max data point again!
      2. Recorded Perf Cond again!
  3. Oct 20 - Updated to 5.15 beta software manually.
    1. VO2 Max run: 46:48
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
  4. Oct 25 - OTA update to 5.20 software
    1. Threshold run: 1:10:52
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
    2. Tempo run: 1:05:29
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
  5. Oct 31 - OTA update to 5.30 software
    1. VO2 Max run: 1:17:18
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
    2. Tempo TRAIL run: 56:49
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
  6. Nov 3 - Talked to Garmin support, deleted some folders off the watch but no changes to software update
    1. Threshold run: 50:14
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond
  7. Nov 4 - Manually updated to 5.32 software, then immediately Reverted to 5.30 software forcing a watch Reset so I had to set it up again like new
    1. VO2 Max run: 21:17
      1. No VO2Max data
      2. No Perf Cond

  • Have you checked the batttery of your cheststrap? That was my problem lately when it didn't record my VO2

  • I do not use a chest strap nor do I use any other accessories. Just the watch. Been using it since January without any problems like this.

  • I reached out to the OP diretly, if anyone else is seeing this issue feel free to @ me and I'll reach out to you directly.

  • That's strange, because i believed that VO2 can only be measured with a chest strap. Also if I run without stap  i do not receive a VO2 result. What do I have to adjust in my watch so VO2 also gets measured  with the wristsensor?

  • Do remember that Trail runs are not counted for VO2max. I see you have some trail runs in your list. How often do you road run? It is possible to    ‘lose’VO2max’ tracking if you have a big enough gap between ordinary runs. At which time you then have to do a number of successive road runs for VO2max to begin again.

  • Yes I am aware Trail Runs do NOT record VO2 Max data and I labelled my only 2 recent Trail Runs, the rest are all standard Run activities on the road and track. In the past there has been periods when I did many more Trail runs yet I never lost my Training Status, but that doesn't apply because lately I'm almost exclusively running on the road.

You can actually see in my history after I reverted back to the 5.0.0 software and I started getting VO2 Max data again, my 1 Trail Run did not have VO2 Max data, as expected.

Looking in Connect at my 4wk chart for VO2Max, my last recorded data point was on Oct 18 from my final Run activity on the 5.0.0 software. After that I updated to the 5.15 beta software and have not received any VO2 Max data since despite having done 6 hard Run activities on the road\track.

  • Do you have a 945? Because this is a standard feature and works with both the wrist OHR and chest straps. I don't know of any way to disable it, you just have to have standard Run activity data. It's detailed in the manual:
    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner945/EN-US/GUID-015C6746-435D-48E0-8ED8-CA2C81684E38.html

Perhaps you're experiencing the same issue?

VO2 Max data is the core of all performance data for the Garmin 945 which is why it's so annoying to me to lose it even though I've been running hard. And I was really enjoying following the Daily Training Suggestion but now I don't get any suggestions because they're based off Training Status which is based off VO2 Max data from previous Runs. It also messes up my Recovery recommendations and my Performance Condition is gone.

  • I am seeing exactly the same issue on my FR945 (no VO2 Max reporting after manually updating to 5.09, even after upgrading to newer released firmware)

I have the same issue. There has been no Vo2Max after upgrading to 5.xx (5.30, 5.32, etc.).
