Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_532Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. From the RemoteSW folder in the unzipped download, copy the GUP3303.GCD into the \GARMIN\RemoteSW folder on your device.
  4. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  5. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-530.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-530.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  6. To downgrade your peripheral software, place the GUP3303-606.GCD from the RemoteSW\Downgrades folder into your device's \GARMIN\RemoteSW folder.
  • Curious, do dev watch out for connect uploads with beta s/w version tags to see how they go?

If they would do that, they would immediately go to data protection hell. Garmin has to ask every user to get access to its data (GDPR...) and would be fined a nice amount of money.

  • First run with 5.32 seems to have fixed the connection issue with the Jaybird Vista earbuds.   I only have the buds connected to my 945 so far.  Will pair with my phone next and see if that causes any new issues.   Starting at 5.15 though, I could make it 5 minutes without losing connection, so making an entire run is definitely an improvement.

  • Not sure about that - in the Garmin Connect Privacy Policy it's stated that if you upload data to Connect you allow Garmin to use that data.

"(a) Garmin processes your activity data, if you choose to upload it to Garmin, to enable you to analyse your activity data, identify any Garmin devices used to collect data during the activity, see your location on your activity course and segment maps, see your heart rate related metrics such as stress score, Body Battery or pulse oximetry, track your fitness goals, and, if you wish, share your activity data with others."

    https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/privacy/connect/policy/

I guess that identy any Garmin devices would also include the possibility to see which software they are running on. The way I interpret this, is that we - by uploading to GC - consent to Garmin using our data (which makes sense to me).

  • You consent them for processing the data (visualizing them in Connect) for YOU "to enable you to analyse...". All the things are done by yourself.

You dont consent them for using that data for anything business related in figure a.

    (c) Garmin also processes your activity data, if you choose to upload it to Garmin, in an aggregated manner to analyze usage and trends and develop or improve features and services. The legal basis for this processing is Garmin’s legitimate interest in providing relevant and quality features and services.

    d) If you choose to upload your activity data to Garmin and you are opted in to product improvement, Garmin will process your activity data uploaded to your account for research and development purposes internally to help us build better and more relevant Garmin products and services. If you reside in the European Economic Area, U.K., or Switzerland, the legal ground for processing this data for this purpose is your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time within your Garmin account.

This is more the way to go, but I still can't see how aggregated data can be used to see how any Firmware is doing? Sensor dropouts are the only thing wich can be extrapolated. But things like how fast those sensors are acquired before you push start will not be in the fit file?

  • Thanks for pointing this out. The connection to my headphones (Jaybird Vista) was dropping during my runs since the latest update 6.04, I guess. This one seems to solve it, just went for a run and did not experience a drop.
