Forerunner 945 training effect before and after download heart rate data - possible bug?

I just got back from doing 10 20 second uphill sprints with my Forerunner 945 and wearing an HRM tri chest strap.

Before starting the run I checked in sensors and accessories to make sure the HRM Tri showed as connected, then I set off on the workout.

Immediately after stopping the workout I watched recovery HR as usual, then immediately saved the workout and went to training effect, which was:

Aerobic: 3.1

Anaerobic: 3.0

Load: 172.

Overall: Anaerobic.

Immediately after this, I went down to 'Download HR', which went through 'searching for HR data', 'downloading HR data', 'processing HR data', 'Download successful'.

I then immediately checked training effect again, which reported:

Aerobic: 3.1

Anaerobic: 2.4

Load: 172

Overall: Tempo

Considering the HRM Tri was supposedly already connected at the start of the run, why is there such a massive change in Anaerobic training effect after manually downloading heart rate date from the chest band to the watch?

  • If it was connected the whole time why did you need to download data? I though that was for swimming?

  • If the chest belt is connected with the watch during the whole workout, you don’t have the option showed to download the HR data. Afaik

  • is right. If you have the HR data already, DON'T download it again.

  • This is something that’s been discussed on many occasions in the past virtually since the HRM-Tri first came out. Intuitively you would think that the data recorded during the activity and that stored then downloaded would be the same. But for some reason it isn’t. There have always been small discrepancies. If you are that bothered by it contact Garmin Support and start a conversation there.

Otherwise, as others have stated, don’t download the data after an activity where the data has been collected during the activity.

  • Folks, this is a forum for discussing stuff about Garmin products. I wasn't sure what was going on, hence I came here to discuss it. If you think that discussing your experiences to get other points of view and understanding is off, I don't get why you're here in the first place, unless it's just to try and belittle people?

  • Because the option was there, so I clicked it. Like I said, I checked it was connected before I started the run, so I didn't really understand what was going on, hence I'm here asking questions about it...

  • No problem with asking questions. The option is there for situations where you the watch is not in continual contact with the strap (eg. if you take the watch off to participate in contact sports). If you are in continual contact, don't duplicate the data by downloading as well.

  • Hi Adders,

Reviving an old thread here!!!!! I’ve been getting the same outcome on downloading the HR data with a fenix 6x and the HRM Tri. Except in my case the impact values are consistently higher after downloading.

Begs the question what drives the changed metrics - on a summary look at the hr values they appear the same.

Did you find any solid answers?
