Tomorrow's suggested workout

I've been testing out the new daily suggested workout feature this week.  What would be very helpful and appears currently missing is a preview of *tomorrow's* workout.  I run in the morning before work and need to be able to preplan the time expected for the next day's workout so I can set my alarm clock accordingly.

  • For my update, I've been mostly following the suggested workouts since the initial post.  Where I have ignored suggestions was on long days.  I find that the suggested workouts have never been over 1 hour thus far, and my long runs are in the 3-4 hour range lately.

My performance condition has gone down during the same time, showing as peaking or losing performance or unproductive most days.  I'll give it more time to see if I am just adjusting to the new workout routine.

  • My suggested workout today said "An easy workout is suggested due to poor sleep last night."  That would be very hard to predict a day in advance.

(Poor sleep?  City Commission meetings run late into the evening, and then I have errands to run, dogs to walk.  So every other Thursday will have poor sleep.)

  • And today it told me my recovery had gone faster and had only 7 hours left, but the recommendation was still "Rest", meh.

    Didn't rest.

  • I think some are missing the point of predictive applications.  When I look at tomorrow’s predicted suggested workout, Garmin should make the suggestion based on currently available data.  The closer you get to “tomorrow”, the more accurate the prediction becomes.

  • And when on the day before it suggests a long slow run, but due to my crap sleep in the morning it suggests a 30 minute run?

  • Exactly.  When your package with an ETA tomorrow gets delayed encounter, the algorithm calculates a new ETA as more data is received.  The closer you are to the ETA, the more accurate the prediction.

  • When I look at tomorrow’s predicted suggested workout, Garmin should make the suggestion based on currently available data.  The closer you get to “tomorrow”, the more accurate the prediction becomes.

I'm a little confused here. If you know the workout can change based on what you're doing prior to the next day's workout, what good does viewing it the day before? How do you prepare yourself for something you have no idea will change?

  • Prediction should not change much unless you have an unforeseen variable thrown into the equation.  If the algorithm already takes into account sleep and other wellness conditions, accuracy should be consistent unless you do something out of your norm.  Machine learning is a wonderful thing.

  • Not entirely on topic but after further following the daily running suggestions (I am currently not training for a specific goal) I must say that my form is increasing. After a decrease of my VO2max/unproductive training VO2max is now on the rise again. Very curious to see the longer term effect and which (disruptive) consequences this has for the future of training!

  • Hello everyone, I am a 645M owner but I will soon pass 945 from despair! I am already reading to understand if it works well, even if I do not have the suggested workouts, from what I have read I am alternating fast workouts to slower ones and VO2max is increased, in my opinion follows the performance condition, when I often fell below 0 I was stuck at 48 now i am stable at 50 and i feel much better. Thanks to Garmin-Brooks who finally listens and helps users.
