Wrist based heart rate displays incorrect value after activity

I use a Polar H10 heart rate monitor during my runs and when I end the run my heart rate monitor disconnects and it returns back to using the optical monitor of the watch. When this happens my heart rate which may be anywhere from 120-150 based on my polar but when it is disconnected, my watch will display "--" then something around 60-70 bpm. If I reconnect my polar it will go back to above a hundred but it takes my 945 a while before it displays a somewhat accurate value using the wrist based method. I am using the most recent public release, but this has been going on for a while even in previous updates.

  • When starting the oHRM it starts off at 70 kind of like a default I believe.  You're switching methods of HR reading and it takes the oHRM a little bit to capture the correct value.

  • Yes, the oHRM algorithm clearly works by initially "guessing" the HR and then tracking it's changes (i.e. compensating when the current guess is off). That means it may initially take a minute or so before the watch has latched onto the correct rate. And if you keep moving your arm during this time, it might take longer for the HR to be read correctly (because the watch might latch onto your cadence instead, or just plainly be unable to read your wrist well enough).

  • Did you see this problem when you exit to the watch face after the activity?

I highlighted this problem in another thread too. Its kinda irritating to see the short period of incorrect HR value.

The watch should be smart enough to guess the correct HR when transitioning from a chest HRM sensor to the watch optical HR sensor.
