Workout gauge - pace

I know this has been asked on this forum before (1+yrs ago), but, interestingly enough, the answers differed, so I thought maybe there's some extra clarity at this point.

When doing a workout (in my case, the interval goal is based on pace), there is a screen w four "variables"

- pace gauge

- pace in numbers (--:--) below the gauge

- distance left in the interval/step

- interval/step time

Gauge/pace number: is it based on instant pace or average pace? Intuitively it seems like gauge is instant pace, while the number is average lap pace, but I haven't had enough workouts yet to verify that by feel. Accordingly, what are the alerts based on - instant or avg?

Thanks in advance!

  • It’s average pace.

i did a 17.8km in 1hr:50min easy run. For the first 1hr, I was running faster than the range. Then I started running within the specified range. The whole time the gauge showed I was within 6:19min/KM pace.

After the race I saw that my graph showed that the average was 6:19 min/KM pace for the entire duration, and there a few laps when I broke the 7 min/KM barrier.

I want to know how can I change it from average pace to instant pace.
