Sensors keep turning off

This began with the latest FW version 5.0 and I (and others) have commented on it other threads but this problem has persisted for me.

My ANT+/BT sensors continue to turn "off" on their own from day to day on my watch.  I'll turn them all on before starting an activity, then the next time I go to do another activity I noticed that my HR and footpod are not connecting and sure enough in the settings they have been turned "off" again.

Only my Varia Radar for my bike and my Garmin Tempe stay "on" in settings...everything else including HRMs, footpods, power meters, speed/cadence etc get their status to "off" somehow between activities.

Anyone else seeing this?

  • My understanding of the problem that started this whole thread was that the sensors weren't properly being restored after exiting the widget.

Must've been a different thread.  I started this one and I don't recall saying anything about widgets until now.

  • Might have been a different thread, but likely same cause as the symptoms were identical.

I just tried modifying the sensor state from a data field, and it doesn't let you even call the functions.  So that's not the problem.

What battery widget are you using?  And you say that's your only CIQ widget?

  • I have installed "Battery Widget with Automatic charge..." by dsapptech.

Oh, and I see also that I have the "Temps" widget installed from jim_m_58.  Maybe that has some connection to the Tempe issue (but like I said I just happened to notice it's turned off - I can't recall ever having to turn it back on when going to an activity).

  • Ah, the Temps widget likely would be the cause, is my guess.  Since it would be enabling the Tempe sensor, which disables the others.  Are you using his latest version from the store, or a private side loaded version?

You see sensors turned off where?  In the sensors menu?  But when you go to an activity, they all work?

It was my own Temperature widget that I originally started seeing this problem where my power meter was regularly getting turned off.

  • That's interesting.  Yeah when I go to the sensors menu, I see the speed/cadence one turned off and I also noticed the Tempe WAS turned off but now that I check again it's still on.  But I never encounter issues with my Tempe when starting an activity, anymore it's only the speed/cadence sensor.

(When I started this thread, it was many other sensors that were turned off - like my Scosche HRM, etc - but I don't see that issue anymore)

  • I was enabling the Temp sensor, which would in turn disable all the other sensors.  The weird thing was that it was only my power meter and HR strap sensors that were regularly getting disable and not others.  So I'd go for a bike ride and not be getting power.  After the fix a couple builds ago, I no longer see this problem.

  • Interesting.  Well I can easily disable/uninstall the Temps widget and see if it makes a difference.  I rarely if ever go into that widget anyway (it takes a long time for it to find my tempe, and the point of the widget is to compare on-board temperature to external temperature so the tempe is kind of the point).

  • In my case, just scrolling into the widget loop where it was displayed as one of the 3 visible glances would cause the problem.

  • It's not turning the Tempe off anymore.  I've checked it a half dozen times or so.
