Extreme Battery Drain within Seconds

Here's a first for me.  Moments ago I looked at my watch as I knew the battery was getting a little low.  It was at 32%.  I took the watch off to connect to my laptop to charge and update the new Bluetooth SW with Garmin Express.  As soon as I removed the watch from my wrist, it turned off.  I turned it back on and it's showing 1% battery.  I plugged it into my computer and it started charging starting at 1%.   This happened in a span of less than 30 seconds.  Anyone else see anything like this before?

Update: It's been connected to the charging cable to my computer and it's charged from 1% to 46% in about 7 minutes. This doesn't seem normal either.

  • This usually means that the battery is near its end.

  • Well, that's definitely something I didn't want to hear.  I'm going to take it off the charger now and see how things go. I'm hoping it was just some kind of one off event.

  • Don't get too alarmed, I've seen erratic behavior like that before...not just with my watch but other chargeables too (like my iPhone).  Usually a power cycle fixes it.  Chances are you're already fixed and the 46% you're seeing is the normal charge up from what should've been 32%.

  • i'd say something / a glitch with the battery manager driver / software. give it a normal 100% charge, the 15 seconds whatever reboot :-) and see how it goes...

  • 8 hrs and 3%.  I've been doing yard work all day and out of reach of Bluetooth for the majority of that time, so maybe this is "normal".  I did a restart of the watch and I don't use any IQ watch faces, so I guess I'll wait until it reaches 30% and see if it happens again.

  • I'm happy to say it was just a one time fluke.  It's been 8 days and the battery has drain down to 44%.  I've been busy with other things and I'm on a hiatus from training, so just using BT 24/7 and no GPS. That's an average of 7% a day and comes out to 14.2 days on a full charge which meets the specs.
