Why can't we use running power with run mode including structured workouts??

I know this has been asked before but the response has been pretty much nothing from Garmin.

Why can't we use running power with run mode? I would like to be able to use my stryd with structured workouts imported from TrainingPeaks.

I know running power isn't standardized, but that doesn't stop Garmin themselves from selling a foot pod. As far as I understand it, the pod (Stryd, FP) returns a number to the watch, so it shouldn't matter if the formula isn't standardized. It's a number. Also, cycling power works fine with many, many vendors, so that argument is straight out the window anyway.

Suddenly the COROS Pace 2, which is less than half the price of the FR945 not only has rrun power built in, but it integrates fully with Stryd AND cn do structured workouts from TrainingPeaks. It seems that Garmin needs to explain in some form why this doesn't work while their competition not only does it, but does it better and cheaper.

  • Structured workouts only support native metric on Garmin devices.

Power on Garmin devices is not a native metric. It is delivered via ConnectIQ.

As DCrainmaker suggested in his review of COROS Pace 2 - Garmin may rethink whether its native or not.

In truth when Garmin initially added RunPower it was a good example of "eating their own dog food" and showing the the ConnectIQ ecosystem could deliver real value.

  • So how is it done for cycling power and structured workouts? Is it a native metric?

  • Yup - native. Cycling power has native from the get go, around donkeys years, running power much more recent. Cycling power is standardised whereas running power is not. For example Stryd does everything in Watts per kg and converts to watts after the fact whereas, I think, others do just watts.

  • use Connect IQ App "Drews Interval" and everything works fine, the only thing you need is the Android Companion App to export your Training as a JSON File from Trainining Peaks, it will be synced to your Forerunner with GC
