Sudden drop of HR when switching HRM Chest strap -> OHR Sensor

I have the HRM Tri chest strap.

I notice after saving an activity, the HR drops all of a sudden when switching sensors from HRM chest strap to watch OHR.

For example,

Current HR is 110 after warm down

Save and exit the run activity on the watch

Current HR becomes 70 all of a sudden

Takes some time for HR to rise again

Anyone notices this bug ?

  • If Garmin Pay is enabled, then the OHR will remain on to verify that the watch is still on your wrist, even if the HR data is coming from the chest strap.

If you have at some stage taken the watch off without re-entering your GP PIN, then the OHR would remain off in this situation.

  • Thanks. I am glad someone is seeing this problem as well.

  • I have setup GP but I have not used it before.

Today I tried to enter GP and pin. You only need to enter pin once?

I will try to monitor HR again after my next run.

  • I bet you don't look at the HR of your watch after saving an activity. Yeah then it is a non issue.

Yeah, I don't. Those readings doesn't much matter to me as I've already checked the recovery HR, and then the next information that I want is the 24/7 HR and in that timescale, the issue you are having isn't really noticeable.

Why do you watch your HR after saving an activity? If for recovery HR, there's different procedure for it.

Yes, idea is that if you enter the pin, then the watch keeps OHR on, so it can know if you have removed the watch from your hand and if you remove the wallet is locked again and it won't probably keep the OHR on anymore during activity as there wouldn't be any benefits, as the wallet is already locked.

  • It’s not a problem.

The Garmin RHR is fixed at 2 min. You are not interested to know after 3 or 4 min?

  • Yep, same answer. No. One point is enough for me and that is even pretty pointless as Garmin doesn't use the data to give me anything much more interesting than the one point. Recovery advisor and BB probably gives me better information than Recovery HR, at least for them I can see them in the watch later.

  • i tried this method. I keyed in pin for GP and did my run.

The HR was still dropping suddenly when switching Chest strap -> OHR.

I will try again another time.
