Synchronizing from watch fails

Hey everyone, since the update to 5.0 and Garmin connect mobile 4.34.11 I can’t successfully start the synchronization from the watch. It seems that if the app is opened its working, but the watch always shows sync failed. It also shows a fail message If I try WiFi sync. any tips?

  • Would that phone sync use wifi? There's comment on the release post that the wifi has been bundled with hardcoded DNS servers and if DNS lookup from those fails the syncronization fails.

Coult this be the case also with you?

  • Might be the case, I have to look Into that. If instant the sync from the app, it works fine though.

  • GCM sync uses BT and mobiles network to sync. Wifi uses Wifi, but I didn't fully get what did you mean by starting synchronization from the watch, is it BT or Wifi, but as Wifi and it fails, I would guess it uses Wifi, and that DNS change might be the cause.

  • I meant starting it from the shortcut menu on the watch by long pressing the up button and choosing the little sync icon.
Then you can use normal BT oder press down for WiFi. Neither works.
initiating the sync from the app works though.

  • Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks once more for Your help.

  • Ah so. Tried the BT sync from watch, nothing seemed to happen, it just looped and I got bored waiting and opened the mobile. Seemed like it didn't much work if the phone was locked/GCM not running or something, maybe that could explain the BT failure. Also on the same sync, the wifi did work, no difference to hotkey.

But if the BT from the watch worked for you before this and only thing that has changed was the 945 version, no idea why BT would not work, but the DNS might explain Wifi.

If I sync from watch I have hotkey for wifi sync that I use.

  • Alright. Thanks, so partially there is the same problem. I will look into that WiFi problem more.
