What’s with the Calorie count?

Road cycling is my primary activity. I’ve got an Edge 130+ on my bike (recently replaced my Edge 200) and just got the FR 945 (my Fitbit Blaze died). I could do without the Edge, but I like having the display out front while Riding.  FR 945 gives me half the calories of Edge. Thoughts on that? Also, I get two data sets uploading to Garmin Edge and Strava. Is there a way to limit that? Should I ditch the 130 and just use the 945?

Thanks

  • Do you have your HR strap connected to both devices? The calorie value could be different if the watch uses the OHR while Edge uses the strap.

I don't have Edge130 but I think you can discard the activity without saving on either devices after the session.

  • Not using the strap. Edge is not reading HR. I broadcasted HR from FR to Edge. You are correct about discarding an activity. I like the (relative) simplicity of the Edge, but might give it up after I dial in better with the FR.

  • I rode a known / frequent route yesterday with the strap feeding HR to both the FR 945 and the Edge 130+.  Calorie count came out even on both, and half of what I would expect. The app isn't telling me "active vs passive" just total cal burn. I'm going to try the same route today with strap feeding only the Edge.

  • I have FR645M + edge 130, active on both physio true up, connect HR band only to 130, first download the track of 130 and then synchronize the clock, you will have the sum of the 2 activities, if you synchronize the clock again you also align the app

  • Thanks, I think Physio is active on both, will check.  HR band on 130 only makes sense. How do you synchronize the clocks?

  • 99% wi-fi use, only in very rare cases BT
