Regionalised 945 versions - help!

Hi there.

I bought the following watch from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=sr_1_3

I need UK maps.

The product id is: 010-02063-00

Can anyone tell me which country version this is? I'm in the UK and Garmin telephone support said that this is the EU maps version with the UK map, however all info online seems to suggest that 010-02063-00 is actually the US maps version and 010-02063-01 is the EU version.

Many thanks

  • I ordered my 945 from Amazon.  After it arrived, I noticed that the maps didn't include all the local roads, just the major roadways.  I also noticed that it wasn't running on the latest version of the software.  Apparently I did not receive a US version even though I live in Florida.

I called Amazon about my issue.  They asked me to return the watch I had received AND they immediately sent me a replacement watch without asking for additional money.  (I suppose that if they didn't get back the original, they would end up charging me.)  I got the replacement within a couple days of my phone call, and then I sent back the original.

Amazon's customer service is pretty good, but you may need to talk to a person to avoid the second charge and refund for the original billing cycle.

However, the 945 (like most of Garmin's mapping products) is not limited to Garmin maps.  You can also download maps from OpenStreetMap for free.  Just Google "download free garmin maps" for instructions.

If we're ever allowed to travel again, I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for maps of Europe so I can run there during a week's vacation.  Or when walking across England for two weeks.  Free downloads are the way to go for travelers.  (Also, I dream about a circumnavigation cruise.  Imagine all the Garmin maps you'd need to buy.)

(This is one reason I'm very happy with Garmin as opposed to other mapping products.  Most mapping products limit the maps to ones you buy from them, while Garmin is happy with third party maps.  Just imagine if you had to buy your music from Garmin...)

  • I'm 90% sure it's one map per product.  So you can't buy a map from Garmin and install it on your car's GPS, your watch, your bike computer, etc.

    Luckily you have other options...
