Garmin Satellite Signal

I've had no problems with my Garmin 945 until last Saturday.  Last Saturday, I did a 10 mile run, which I've done 100s of times and it's on a marked trail.  Garmin was short by about .15.

On Monday, GPS didnt start capturing until about a mile into my run (I usually dont check for a signal as it happens so quickly usually).  A similar thing happened on Weds except that at around mile 8 of a 10 mile run GPS just completely cut out although distance kept going.  When you look at my upload, you can see where GPS stopped but the route kept going.  I updated to the latest software and also did the maps update.

Today, I was over 2 miles into my run and no GPS OR distance was being tracked, just the time.  I ended the activity and proceeded to run almost 5 miles on a track before a satellite signal was acquired.

Are any others experiencing similar issues?

Thanks!

  • Maybe your 945 didn't receive new GPS Ephemeris data, thus taking a lot longer than usual to get a quick GPS fix.

    Try the following:

    • syncing with Garmin Express, maybe there's an issue with the Connect app that it doesn't receive current ephemeris ("fast gps fix"/position data).
    • shutdown the watch and boot it up again.

Maybe that'll help reloading the data and help you getting a faster GPS fix next time.

To make sure, start an activity in open air and observe how long the fix takes after the aforementioned steps.

    Good luck!

  • A number of users have found some problems with GPS not tracking distance since the outage. Clearing out old activities seems to solve the issue. Note that beta 4.87 also includes a fix for this.
