Just a question on this because I am looking forward to this as well, does "on watch tracking" just push the sleep tracking that happens within Garmin Connect to be done on the actual watch? The only real thing I find annoying is when you get up in the morning and review your sleep, only for it to change after another sync a few hours later. I assume that having "on watch tracking" will avoid this from happening?

Naps are still not tracked and you need around an hour of sleep before the tracking kicks in. Also. only one sleep period stored so if you get up in the middle of the night for an extended period then go back to sleep, you will only get the last hours of sleep recorded.
I found short periods of around 15 mins are fine; they are recorded as being awake. I have not bothered to investigate how long I could remain awake and out of bed before losing the recorded sleep.
It's actually quite fun to notice how much the sleep stats differ between Garmin watches. E.g. if you record your sleep with a FR945 and FR935 you will see significant differences, one may record deep sleep while the other thinks you are in REM or even awake. Generally my personal observation is that the FR935 is a bit closer to what Fitbit or Oura record for sleep compared to the FR945 which deviates the most. But still Garmin's sleep tracking is quite erratic or random, which might change if they return to the more reliable Firstbeat sleep algorithm they used in the past.
I thought that on device sleep ment firstbeat calculation and is the same as Fitbit uses.
