3rd party wristbands

I have a 920XT and I see there's no board for it,  but my questions are about new wristbands

I'm probably on my 4th or 5th garmin branded wristband, they last about 12-14 months on average.

At around $30 a pop I find this a little much, but any 3rd party ones I see on Amazon etc don't seem any better, or even as good.

Has anyone found a decent 3rd party / aftermarket wristband?

I'm surprised someone hasn't made a nice leather one or woven fiber one made of something that lasts longer than 14 months, I'd gladly pay over $50 for one that would last like a typical watchband that would last for years, if not decades.

thanks in advance.

  • I'm not quite sure what you are looking for, but I wanted quick release bands for my 945 and bought some of these in the middle of June.

I've been pretty happy with them, they are just as soft and comfortable as the original straps, and the mechanism that attaches the strap to the watch feels extremely secure.

  • I purchased this pack of six - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07VV85HNB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -

    Plus these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07KWZLL2M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wear the black one most of the time in everyday situations, but always swap out band when running (often to coordinate with whatever race shirt or club vest I'm running in, because I'm sad!!).

Bit fiddly to unscrew the original strap but once its done the quick release mechanism is brilliant and just clips to the original 'poles'...strap quality seems as soft and nice as the original Garmin.

  • I have once bought Garmin original wristband only to get it broken after 6 months of use. After that I went to 3d party wristbands. I bought back in the day for my 910xt two wristbands. Used only one of them for more than 2 years and sold them with my watch. With FR 935 after one year of use, the original Garmin wristband got broken again. bought again two 3d party wristband, weared for 1,5 years withought slight problem. Sold my FR935 with untouched 3d party wristband and the used one put on my new FR945. And it has served me a little over 2 years (1,5 with 935 + 7 months with 945). So don't hesitate, Aliexpress or Amazone have big variety of 3d party wristbands and you can order the cheapest one, because they are all the same, don't get fooled by different "brand" name. They are all the same from the same factory, the only difference is the price, what seller is asking. I don't know from what Garmin makes their wristbands (but they are a little more pleasant and softer), but they don't last at all. It's the same with Apple's lightning cables. Apple ones get broken in the 05-1 year time, while 3d party one just last. In Apple case, they are more "environmental friendly", that is why they are not so reliable. Although if they get broke so fast, how can they be environmental friendly if you create lots of waste. Maybe it's the same case with Garmin's...

  • Thanks for the replies, the ANCOOL ones look okay, but does not say if they'll fit the 920XT or not. I guess I will have to measure the old strap and see it they are close.

  • I have tiny wrists, none of the 3rd party Amazon bands fit. So watch the size, I ended up giving them to my spouse

  • I've bought this one and it's perfect, quality appears the same as the original and it's impossible to twist it loose. I'd totally go for an open water swim with this. Colours and material feel the same as the original for a fraction of the price.

  • Anyone found a "cheaper" version of Garmins Nylon version? Not willing to pay 200€...

  • Can confirm that. Own one for a year, never had any issues and also went swimming a lot.

Now it starts getting plain and I'll replace it. I think that's ok for the price!

  • Me too can confirm that those bought on aliexpress are great. Have received few of them a couple of days ago. They are just a bit harder than the genuine one, and this difference does not affect usage experience at all. Quick release locks seem to be quite reliable, springs are tight. Colours are clear and bright.
