FR945 First OW Swim map problems

I had my first OW swim with new FR 945.  Total distance seems correct, but the map only shows one leg of the swim.  I included a link below.  The swim was more like a triangle, but the only the "out" let is shown on the map.  Is there calibration or something that needs to be done?

  • the cpe (or epo) file is only related to how fast the gps signal is acquired -see here https://support.garmin.com/en-IE/?faq=ZCFBNlxeiM3oipPmFoYfs7; out of experience, if you have a good technique with proper arm recovery  you can get a pretty good swim course

I swam this morning and the mileage and course were pretty right on - and the CPE file is still listed as "missing" on the watch.  Also - bike and runs both have tracked well with watch.  I will let it sit with GPS on for 20 minutes, but still not sure what happened with my first swim.

  • well...weird things do happen :-). i would check the existence of the cpe file in the garmin\remotesw folder; regardless if it exists (or not), delete it, plug the 945 into the computer and sync it with express; check again the file. if it's there - check what the about section on the watch says; if it says current, open a run activity and let your 945 acquire gps signal for a couple of minutes. also, for the sake of things what software version are you currently running? your shared activity says 4.20 - latest for row devices is 4.40 with 4.10 for the gps component...

I've just purchased the Form goggles which links live data from a select number of devices straight to a screen in the goggle. I bought/selected  the Garmin 945 to go with the goggles and I haven't had one OW swim where the watch didn't lose GPS within seconds. I hate to be negative but this is really frustrating and slightly misleading. I understand that technology has to be developed but this watch doesn't do what it says it can. What is the likelihood that an update will alleviate what looks like a hardware issue?

  • For me changing to the other wrist eliminated all of the GPS issues. Give it a try, even if it does not sound like a logical recommendation!

Also make sure you use front crawl and proper technique.
