stryd pace/distance vs 945

Hello guys,

everyone here is not fully satisfied with GPS accuracy on the 945. So distance is off as well.

Anybody tried to get distance and pace from stryd ? Did you have any tips or settings to use ?

And what about indoor performance, how 945 does against stryd ?

thanks

  • I am using a Stryd since end of January and I am perfectly satisfied with it. If you just concentrating on the speed measurement it is just beating any kind of GPS measurement (especially indoor). I never used my FR945 indoor alone, just Stryd, so I have no comparison, but usual GPS weak spots, like big trees, buildings, sharp corners or other places with GPS signal anomalies are completely removed fro your runs.

For me its outdoor distance measurement performance is also much more precise. I have no comparison to measure accuracy but the same loop is almost the same distance (+/- 5 meters in a 5k loop) everytime, so it is good to me to make easy  comparisions between runs.

To be honest I opted in for a Stryd for power measurement and in this it is just fantastic to keep a level of effort uphills or downhills or do a long run keeping the same effort in all the time easily. Having a better speed/distance measurement is just a big plus.

  • Good. I'm gonna give it a try.

What did you do ? Did you disable GPS or just set the footpod to always read distance and pace ?

  • Since treadmills can be not precise, did you disable automatic calibration ?

  • Stryd has a very detailed guideline how to setup your FR945, but the basics are the same as you asked. Set the pod to always provide speed and distance and keep the calibration at 100.0 with disabling azto calibration. I also downloaded the Stryd Zones datafield and set to display both 3mp average and lap average.

Everyone? A 5km parkrun course measured with a calibrated wheel. 945 is GPS+GLONASS and no footpod. This not a one-off.

  • Although Stryd is an amazingly accurate footpod compared to the Garmin one it is wrong to suggest that a calibration factor of 100.0 is always the correct one. Mine is 98.5

Automatic calibration doesn't work on the treadmill, only with GPS.

  • Excellent. Are you in Europe ? There were tall trees on the course ?

  • Calibration done with track or measured with wheel ?

  • I have automatic calibration on and the truth is that it gives me a value of 104.2. I consider it to be very high and it means that Stryd or FR945 are giving wrong data

  • In New Zealand, THe course is not in dense forest but the path is tree-lined.
