Cycling V2max

Hi, what is the cheapest way to get cycling V2max in G.Connect after each ride? Don't need very exact number, just kind of estimation and possibe comparision with similar rides. Seems investment into Powermeter needed. Or does exist HR band which do this job as well (with indirect calculation)?. Thx for any suggestions.

  • There are a few CIQ apps that claim to do this. I have absolutely no idea about their accuracy, but at a minimum they would be ignoring the effects of road surface, wind speed and direction, and your positioning on the bike.

But honestly, a "not very exact number" makes comparison between rides pretty pointless. And while they may estimate/random number generate a VO2Max number, this won't be saved into Garmin Connect.

The Powercal HR monitor was an HR strap that generated power estimates, although I think it is now out of production. You may be able to find one second hand.

Genuine Direct Force power meters have come down in price, but they are still not "cheap". Stages and 4iiii are reputable companies that sell single sided PM's for USD299.

  • Ok, thx a lot for the reply. I will search CIQ which can do this first. Regarding "not very exact number" I didn't mean "random" :-). But OK, I don't need wind to be taken into the account. I have basically 1 training favorite riding loop and if there is kind of "normal" wind, during the loop it's always about 50% against it if you understand:). Thx.
